She sat silently, waiting in the dimly lit room...

The goat's oldest child, an adopted child, had said that she would be back hours ago. It wasn't unlike her to stay out later like this, but she would usually have called by now, saying she was out with friends, that she would be later than she thought. No, on second thought, this wasn't like her at all... Where could she be? It wasn't impossible she'd gotten into trouble; after all, not all of the monsters in Snowdin Town liked her. What if she'd gotten hurt? What if she was injured somewhere? What if..?

The old goat shook herself of these thoughts. That wouldn't happen. Her daughter knew how to take care of herself. After all, she'd done it for 5 years before she'd come here. But still..

"My child... How much longer do I have to wait for you?" she wondered aloud. "How many more nights will it be like this..?"

A loud thump from upstairs shook the old lady from her thoughts. A door opened frantically upstairs, startling her a second time.

"MOMMA, MOMMA!!" her son shouted from the top of the stairs.

She stood up quickly. "Asriel, my child! Are you alright?" she called, concerned.

"I'm fine!" he shouted quickly. "It's not me, it's- OW!" he yelped as he banged his paw on the doorjamb. "I'm fine!" he called a second time.

His mother tilted her head, concerned. "Are you sure you're alright, my child?" she asked.

Another door opened, across the hallway from where Asriel was nursing his stubbed toe. A young girl, about 13, with short brown hair and mahogany-colored eyes, was standing in the doorway. "Azzy, what the hell happened? Why are you yelling?" she asked sleepily.

"Chara, my child, language," their mother admonished. "Now, Asriel, what happened?" She looked up at her son, who was panting frantically and trying to peer into his room from his position on the floor. Chara sighed and knelt down by her brother.

"Let me see your paw, Azzy," she said gently. After a moment, the young goat shifted so his sister could see. "Oh come on, Asriel," she said, slightly frustrated. "It's not that bad."

"F-fine, okay, it's fine," he stammered, clearly distressed. He stood up and stumbled a bit, his ears flopping every which way. "Momma, Galaxy's outside!" he shouted down the stairs.

The old goat started. "Right now?!" she asked, surprised.

"Yeah! And Sans and Mettaton are with her!" Asriel continued in a quieter, more afraid voice. "And I think they're all hurt.."

The goat ran to the door and pulled it open. Sure enough, the three were there, walking towards the house. They all appeared to be injured. Galaxy, the tall blue cat, was doing her best to support Mettaton, who looked like he was about to cry. Sans was walking alongside them, a bloody gash running down his arm. The three noticed the woman at the door at the same time.

As though ashamed of what had happened to them, they glanced at one another slowly. In unison, they looked up at the family in the doorway.

"Hi, Toriel," they said at once, softly, as though they were afraid of being heard...
