Chapter Three: The Gods Have Spoken

Jewel helped the rest of the pack drag the remains of the carcass back to the den, since they probably wouldn't be able to get a kill like that again for a while. Nova rode on top, since they'd need as much help as they could get. Since everyone was helping, either pushing or dragging the elk, it wasn't so hard to transfer back to the den. Occasionally, its antlers would be snagged on a bush or tree, but other than that, it was smooth sailing.

When they finally made it back to the den, a large cave that had been carved on the inside of one of the smaller of five mountains, it was the beginning of sundown. They squeezed the elk inside and looked around to see how much the place had changed since they left yesterday morning. They saw some of the rebellious wolves sitting in front of the stone that past Alphas would sit on, their heads lowered and saddened by the loss of a leader, and a pack. There were about eight adult wolves, one being a mother with three pups, that sat by her side in silence.

"Erm, hello?" Jewel asked quietly, seeing if she could catch the attention of at least one wolf. A large black male wolf, CoalPelt, looked back, his sad eyes widening as he quickly stood and trotted over to Jewel and her new pack.

"Oh, JewelFeather! Welcome! I'm so glad to see a familiar face after last night. You made all of us open our eyes at how our alpha treated us. I joined in the fight after you fell asleep. We just came here to say our goodbyes before leaving. My mate, BlueFire and our pups are here as well." Jewel looked over at the white wolf-mother with the three young ones, that were smiling at her kindly.

"You know," Jewel said slowly and a bit nervously, "You don't have to leave." CoalPelt tilted his head, his auburn and orange eyes looking down at her confusedly as he sat to listen. "We were hoping to make our own pack, and would likely be staying here." Coals confused look turned into a grin as he looked back at his mate and nodded. Blue nodding with a tired smile in return. He then turned back to Jewel, his tail now wagging with content.

"So, who is the Alpha of your new pack? And what is your packs name?" He asked, the other adults walking over and sitting around the juvenile wolves.

"Well," Jewel started, blushing deeply under her fur as she looked down briefly, wondering what they'd think of being ruled by a juvenile wolf. And a female at that. "We had decided not too long ago that I would be Alpha." Her friends smiled up at the adults while sitting behind her.

CoalPelt chuckled, "A female Alpha? It's unheard of. However, the way you handled yourself against Alph-" He cut himself, his ears drooping a bit as he corrected himself. "ForestFlame yesterday, I feel you would deserve the title. I'd much rather have you for an Alpha than he." The other adults looked at each other cautiously, but then nodded together as they smiled down at Jewel. Her smile grew as she realized she had new members of the pack.

"So what's the packs name?" The wolf-mother, BlueFire asked.

"We don't really have a name yet, but we'll all come up with one sometime later." Jewel chuckled softly. The adults nodded, understandingly. Soon, they all stood and spread apart like the Red Sea, Coal gestured for Jewel to walk forward and take her place as their new Alpha. She slowly walked forward, smiling softly up at them as she walked to where the raised boulders sat, she climbed atop, looking back at the pack, who had gathered in front and was looking up at her with pride. She was briefly confused to not see Shadow after how close they had just been, but she heard a soft sigh and looked over to see him standing next to her, that beautiful smile on his face. She had never seen the den from this angle, and it seemed to be far larger from up there than on the ground. She and Shadow slowly sat in unison, and the moment they did, the small pack rejoiced in a collected howl, making it far more official now than it had been when they were eating. Jewel gently leaned against Shadow, the electric tingles down her body turning into a soothing calmness. He rested the side of his head against hers. She was now officially the Alpha of her nameless pack.
