Chapter one
'We will be arriving soon, place your seats up right, your tray folded, and fasson your seat belts. Welcome home soldiers." the flight attendant called over the speakers, looking to me and my team, with a grateful smile planted on her pretty face.
I looked down to a picture of my woman Jane, her hair dark and curly as always and fell by her shoulders, her pale skin conflicting with her green eyes.
"almost home baby" I whispered, not expecting her when I arrived, I was going to go to our apartment to surprise her.
The plain landed, and my heart dropped.
It's been nine months since I have been here.
I was home.
I reached up above me clicking up the cubby that hung above me.
I felt a hand grip my shoulder, I jerked my head over to see who was causing it.
My friend James, he looked at me with kind eyes and a warm smile, his bag swung around his back.
"been a pleasure" he spoke, as I pulled out my camo bag that matched my uniform, and slipped it onto my free shoulder.
"the feeling is mutual" I replied turning to him, griping his upper arm firmly for a moment or to before giving him a hug.
I turned, slowly inching my way out behind the dozen people in front of me.
I walked through the deep blue tunnel that led to the lobby, my heart beating heavy with each and every step.
I stopped at the last turn before I would be able to see the wonderful, welcoming home.
"Blane, go they are waiting." James grind, shoveling me slightly.
I drew a deep breath before setting on my way and turning the corner and wanted to drop to my knees.
My mother, father, little nine year old sister where holding big welcome home sign, also there was great aunt, my friends and...
"Kadence" I said, in total shock, dropping my bag.
"hey Blane..." she smiled, on the verge of tears, as she took slow steps towed me.
Everyone watched in silence.
so this was my big surprise huh?
When she was but three feet from me I stopped the slow movements and rush to grab her into a tight embrace.
This was my best friend.
I had known her since she was born, I was in the waiting room when she was born, I was two at the time.
"I missed you so much" she whimpered into my neck, going limp leaving me to hold her up.
She moved to Texas to go to the college in Corpus Christi, so she can get a job in GIS, I made the choice to take a different rout and join the army, last time I had seen her was four months before my deployment.
"I missed you too, I never did say thanks for you face timing me every night did I?" I asked, feeling her small body, her warmth and loving every second of it.
I could feel her shake her head no as she tightened her grip around my neck, and I pulled her in closer by the hand I had placed on top of her dirty blond hair.
"well thank you" I snickered.
"you wouldn't be able to survive if I didn't" she mumbled in to my shirt.
