Freshman Homecoming.

This has to be the scariest high school dance of them all, because it's the first one so you have no expectations. On the one hand, I was super excited to spend more time with Payton, but on the other, I was terrified that I'd act like an idiot in front of him.

Allie and Lucy are on their way over to get ready with me. They're going with Nikki, Megan, and Samantha. Payton and I are going by ourselves since his friends are all going stag and we didn't want to be the only couple in either group.

The doorbell rang and I ran downstairs to answer it, wanting to beat my brothers. As soon as I hopped off the stairs, I bumped into August and stumbled backwards. He reached a hand out to steady me.

"Woah, sorry." He laughed and I rolled my eyes. "Hey, is that my shirt?" I looked down at what I was wearing, and it was, in fact, an old t-shirt of his and a pair of leggings.

"Yeah, from like 5 years ago. I doubt it would even fit you." I retorted

"Fair enough." I scrambled around him, only to see Benny at the door. Ugh.

"Cece, your dorks are here!" Benny called out. The annoying part of older brothers is that apparently they get to be rude to your friends.

"Shut up, Benny!" I squirmed past him. "Hi girls! We can get ready in my room!" I led them upstairs and shut the door.

"So, are you guys excited?" Lucy asked.

"Oh my god, yes!" Allie replied. "It's our first dance, it's kinda a big deal!" Lucy and I both agreed with her and we got to work on our hair and makeup. I went simple, with a little bit of sparkly silver eyeshadow and nude lips. Allie curled my hair for me and I pulled a small section from each side to the back, pinning them together. My nails were already painted white, so now I was completely ready except for the dress. I put it on and did a little twirl for the girls.

"Cece, you look gorgeous!" Lucy squealed. She was wearing a yellow dress and her normally wild, curly hair was straightened.

"Oh my gosh thanks! You do too!" I replied. Allie walked out of the bathroom with her hair in a fancy updo and a royal blue dress. Lucy and ran over to meet her and marveled at how pretty she looked.

"Allie, my mom's here." Lucy walked downstairs, Allie and I following shortly after. I pulled my heels on and buckled the front of them. "Bye, we'll see you at the dance!"

"Have fun with Payton!" Allie chimed in.

"See you guys soon!" I waved them off and took a seat at the kitchen table.

"Cece are you just about ready?" August came down the stairs wearing his suit, followed by Benny.

"I'm good to go." I smiled.

"You look nice." August smiled at me. "We have to pick up Riley on the way."

"Okay." We got in the car, which was surprisingly clean. Probably because he wanted to impress Riley. Benny and I both crawled into the back since August wanted the front seat open for his date. After picking Riley up, we arrived at the park where we were taking pictures. Payton was already there, waiting for me. I walked over to him.

"Wow. You look beautiful!" He grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to him. I quickly realized he was going in for a kiss and I very awkwardly went for a hug instead since my brothers were watching. When I pulled back, he looked confused but then realized what was going on.

"You must be Cece! I've heard so much about you! I'm Jen, Payton's mom!" A woman with curly brown hair pulled me into a hug.

"It's nice to meet you!" I smiled, and Payton and I began to pose for some pictures. I looked at a few, and they all seemed to turn out nicely. We wrapped up our pictures, and headed to his mom's car. She was going to drive us to dinner and then we would walk to the school from there since it was only a few blocks away.

We walked into the little Italian restaurant and were seated at a table. We both ordered our food and began talking.

"So, this is like our first date, huh?" I asked, smiling widely.

"Yeah, I guess it is."

"Your mom is really nice."

"I can tell she likes you. I'm sure my dad will too." He said, causing me to smile. "Do you think your parents will like me?"

"Oh, well, it's just my mom, but I'm sure she will."

"Oh, sorry." He said, seeming a little embarrassed.

"Oh, it's okay. He died when I was 4, I barely remember him." He took my hand and there was an awkward pause. "Well, enough of that, did you see that we got an A on our project?"

"I wasn't surprised at all, you're like the smartest girl I know." He smiled at me and I blushed.

"Well, I had a fantastic partner." I replied, and this time he was blushing. We continued to talk as our food arrived. After we ate, he paid and we walked to the school. The sun was setting on our walk, which was gorgeous. We presented our tickets to the desk up front and went in to the dance.

"Cece!" I heard someone yell as soon as we got on the dance floor. I turned to see Megan.

"Oh my gosh, hey! You look awesome!"

"Thanks, you too! Hey, Payton!" Payton waved at her in response. Megan was the only one of my friends that knew Payton, because they went to middle school together. "The girls are right over here!" Megan led us to the rest of my friends.

"Hey guys! This is Payton!" I introduced him to each of my friends and we all danced and had a good time. Eventually, we broke away to go get some water, and bumped into his friends.

"Hey, Ryan!" I watched as they did a weird 'bro hug'. "Cece, this is Ryan. We've played baseball together since we were 8."

"Aww, Bishop's gone soft!" Another boy said, earning laughs from the other guy next to him.

"Whatever, Luke. You're just jealous." Payton rolled his eyes at him, causing Luke's smirk to drop.

"I'm Jake" The final guy said.

"Nice to meet you all." I said, smiling awkwardly at them all.

"Cece, do you wanna go dance?" Payton asked me and I nodded. "Alright, I'll catch you guys later." We walked out to the dance floor and danced for a while, before they announced it was time for a slow dance. Payton wrapped his arms around me as Best Part by Daniel Caesar started playing. I leaned my head against his chest as we danced together.

Where you go I'll follow

No matter how far

If life is a movie

Then you're the best part.

As the song came to a close, he pulled me in for a kiss.
