Chapter 3

It's now just past 4 o'clock and we are about to drive back out to Santa Monica from Disneyland. I had the most amazing day, like, words can not even describe.

We went on so many rides, tried most of the games, took heaps of silly pictures and selfies, and I brought so many souvenirs from the multiple gift stores. We went through the Disney castle and even met some of the princesses. James and I also got a brilliant picture of the two of us with Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

If you hadn't realised by now, I was a sucker for Disney. I loved everything about it, especially The Lion King. That's my favourite Disney movie and, okay, I still tear up when Scar kills Mufasa. But only a little.

"So what are we going to do when we get back to the hotel?" I ask.

"We aren't going back to the hotel yet. Don't ask me where we are going because a) I wont tell you and b) I’m just following your dad’s directions."

My dad? Why would he tell James to take me somewhere? I decide not to ask, as he already said he wont tell me, but I can't help but wonder.

We just passed a sign that said we were now in Beverly Hills, and now I am very interested to know where we are going. As we drive, I notice all the little shops and boutiques along this road.

James slows down slightly looking to his left. I assume he’s looking for something in particular. He finds whatever he is looking for and turns into a parking bay on the side of the road.

"We're here," he states, smiling at me.

And where would here be? I wonder. He leads me into a small shop with three ball dresses in the window. The sign above says 'Young and Wild'.

Weird name, I thought. Not a bad name though. It's a great name for a shop, but just odd for a shop selling fancy gowns and clothes.

We open the door and hear the small chime of a bell and a beautiful lady in her mid-forties comes over to us with a big smile on her face. She has medium blonde hair and green eyes.

"Hi, what brings you gorgeous young people into my boutique this evening? If you’re just browsing, it's about twenty to five and I do close at five, but if you are planning on buying something I can wait for you guys,” she says and smiles a genuine smile.

“James, are we browsing or are we planning on buying something?" I ask, giving him a look.

"Well Candice, this is Sophie Wild, hence the name 'Young and Wild'. Sophie, this is Candice Young,” James says with a smile.

Before I have any time to greet Sophie, she pulls me into a tight hug.

"Candice you’ve grown! You’re so beautiful, just like your mom. She would be so very proud. I’ve missed you so much!"

"You knew my mother?" I ask, suddenly interested in what’s going on. I knew my mom had friends America. I remember her studying design in New York.

"Oh honey, I knew your mother for a long, long time. She was like my sister, my best friend and my business partner," she says, motioning to the shop around her.

"Wait, my mother owned this shop with you?"

"She sure did. Amanda Young and Sophie Wild. Young and Wild,” she says and shrugs.

She looks at James, then back at me.

"Is it really time?" she asks James and he nods.

"Come on sweetie, this is finally happening.”

She leads me out of the main shop area and into the back room which was lined with gorgeous dresses and gowns.

"I have been waiting so long for this day. Your mom made me promise that I would give these to you for the right occasions, let's just hope we got the measurements right."
