I wake up to my phone's alarm going off. As soon as I open my eyes, I shut off the noise and sit up. Seven A.M, and I'm awake just in time for a sunrise.
I hop out of bed and make my way to my apartment bathroom. A small ray of sunshine comes in through a crack in the curtains having above my bed.
Walking to the kitchen instead, I turn on the coffee maker and put in the grounds and water, then let it run while I get to the bathroom.
I set my phone on the counter by the bathroom sink and put on some Powfu, then set a washcloth over my screen so it doesn't get condensation on it. (Life hacks)
I take off my clothes and take a hot shower. It helps my muscles loosen up and wakes me right up, before I even get any coffee. Once I do put in the creamer and sugar, I put a lid on my cup and leave for class. My ginger hair falls loosely over my forehead and ears, and my blue eyes adjust to the light of the outside world.
After my class is over, just in time for lunch, I make a run to the store and pick up some donuts. Special treat, why not?
A slightly younger girl comes up to me. Blonde, curly hair, brown eyes, pale ivory skin.
"Hey, Jen. How's it going?" I ask, giving her a hug. She smiles and adjusts her flannel.
Jen and I have been friends since junior year of high school. She was the type to party and sneak out, but she's gathered herself and is living her best life with her fiancee Diana.
"It's going well! Diana and I found a place in Cali, so we will be moving by the end of this month. Diana's so excited, I didn't know she could have so much enthusiasm over anything." She giggles, her shoulders moving up, and tucks some hair behind her right ear.
"She still doing her goth thing?" I inquire, smiling and trying to hold onto my box of powdered donuts. Jen nods her head and looks with a twinkle in her eyes out the windows of the shop.
"She's always gonna be like that. I don't think I've seen her without her fishnet tights and black lipstick." She responds, then looks at me. "Hey, imma give you my number so we can chat after me and her move!"
We exchange numbers and she goes on to tell me about her Siamese she adopted with her fiancee. His name (the cat's) is Lafayette. Hamilton fans are weird.
As Jen explains his habits, another girl catches my eye. Brown skin, dark chestnut hair. A faded purple sweater and black skirt. Black Mary Janes, and...
And glowing eyes. Glowing blue eyes. I sit in shock as she turns to stare right back at me. The voids of her eyes bore deep into my skull. My body shivers and tingles all over. I've never been so hollow. It's like she's taken over my mind. I can't move.
Jen waves her hand frantically in front of me, and my attention shifts to her.
"Hey. Seth. You good?" She worries, poking my shoulder. "You spaced out there. You looked terrified. Like you'd seen a ghost."
I shake my head. "That girl-" I point to the mysterious person I saw, but Jen looks all around and calls me crazy.
"Uh... There's no one there, dude." She sighs and takes one of my donuts. "Well, I gotta get home before this cake goes bad. See ya later. And drink some water. Maybe you're hallucinating from dehydration."
I gulp and nod, and she leaves. I decide to do the same, though my mind is racing. I drink some coffee and take off.
I head back home and call over a few friends to distract me. We talk about the upcoming basketball game and share donuts. But my mind is still back there.
One of my friends, Parker, throws a pillow at my head. "Bro, you okay?" He asks, laughing at my reaction to the impact of a feather pillow to my face.
I shake my head and clear my thoughts. "Yeah I'm good. Been seeing things all day. Probably good if I get some rest." I sigh, and he nods.
"You heard that guys, he calls little spoon." He teases and calls out to the others. They laugh and I shoo them away. They leave two donuts for me.
I fall sleep quite quickly. I'm in a white room with no windows or doors. A light swings back and forth on a metal head chain from the ceiling. It flickers every so often.
In the corner, I see her again.
She says to me, in Parker's exact voice: "Dude, I swear Seth is losing it. Who takes a nap at 2? He doesn't do that. What a weirdo."
I try to block out her words, but a window opens in front of me and I see Parker. He finished the last words she spoke and laughs. I'm shook. He's like, my best friend. I can't imagine him saying that. But oh well.
Another one bites the dust.
What am I thinking? This is a dream. He wouldn't say that. I pinch myself, waking right back up.
"What a wack dream."(900 words)
