'No, wait - Sherlock!!'

John had to jump in front of the cab to prevent his friend from leaving without him. The cab driver stopped for long enough for John to clamber into the cab next to Sherlock.

'Do you want to explain what's going on here?' John said after a few moments of silence.

'Nope,' said Sherlock matter-of-factly, popping the 'p'.

'Sherlock, we were investigating a crime scene, and you just took off,' said John. 'What's so important?'

'Oh, that was a boring crime scene.'

'Really?' said John sarcastically. 'So, who did it?'

'Who committed the burglary?' Sherlock said. 'The maid, of course, isn't it obvious?'

'Wha- no, it's not bloody obvious!' said John. 'Nobody mentioned anything about a maid!'

Sherlock sighed, rolling his eyes. 'The family live in a high-end, expensive part of London, of course they have a maid. It's Tuesday afternoon, her hours shouldn't have ended yet - so why wasn't she on the scene?'

'So you're saying the maid just randomly decided to steal an expensive piece of jewelry from a place she's worked at for months?' John questioned. 'I thought you'd decided this wasn't a long-term crime!'

'Don't be absurd,' said Sherlock. 'The family moved in three weeks ago, didn't you listen? They must've hired the maid a week or two ago. I imagine she was cleaning, and her fingers happened to find a certain jewel, which happened to fall into her pocket, and she hasn't turned up since.'

'Wouldn't the family have noticed if the maid disappeared with the jewel?'

'You would have thought,' said Sherlock. 'However, I suppose it would be convenient if she were to suddenly be sick, or call in for a day off, or have been given the day off by the family whilst they search for the theif.'

'And you didn't think to mention any of this whilst we were actually there?' John sighed. 'I'll call Lestrade...'

'Don't bother, that can wait,' said Sherlock as the cab pulled up in front of 221b Baker Street. 'We have a much greater problem on our hands.'

John followed Sherlock out of the cab. 'And what's that?'

Sherlock remained silent, and John followed him up into the flat.

Sherlock's usually empty chair was now taken by a woman. Oh great, John thought, another client.

But there was something about her wry smile that set her apart from the rest.

'John,' Sherlock said, 'I would like for you to meet my sister.'

'Hello, boys,' she said slyly.
