Nobody knew what had happened. I refused to tell them all about it. My parents were the only ones who knew. They felt that we just needed to forget it and move on but I couldn't, it followed me everywhere.
"Caitlin can you come down here for a minute," my mum shouted from down the stairs. What have I done now?! Slowly I trudged down the stairs and looked at her. She was stressed again, she was smiling but you could see it in her eyes. Instead of them being the usual vibrant sapphire colour they were a dull blue, nearing a grey.
"What have I done now?" I said following her into the kitchen. My dad was already sat there but refused to look up from his newspaper. I pulled a seat down opposite him and she walked past me, rubbing my shoulder as she passed.
"We need to discuss something with you," my father eventually said.
"I gathered."
"Don't speak to your father like that young lady!" My mother scolded me.
My dad looked up at my mum and she nodded.
"We're moving," he said bluntly.
"Well I knew that was coming sooner or later," I muttered. My mum gave me a look telling me to shut up.
"To America."
"What?" I was not expecting that to come from him!
"After everything that's happened we have decided it would be best to move away from here. It's safer for all of us," my mum explained.
"I don't care I'm fine here and I don't want to move half way across the bloody world!" I exclaimed.
"Language! There is no changing this in any case, we've booked our tickets and found a house." Are they out of their minds!!
"Well what about school?" I queried, there had to be some way I could get out of this.
"It's all sorted dear, they know here and we have got you enrolled in a school near our new house." I was livid! How could they do this to me? School was fine for once and I didn't want to leave all of my friends. I knew there was no changing their minds though. This decision was final.
"We leave on Saturday morning," my dad told me. Saturday. That was three days away. Three days!
"What? Please tell me he's joking mum, please," I begged but she shook her head and looked at the floor.
We were all sat around the table in silence. Nobody looked at each other, the only sound was the birds chirping happily outside the window. Eventually I stood up and glared at them both.
"Thanks, really. You've done a great job of ruining everything again."*
Saturday came around quicker than I expected. After two days filled with emotional goodbyes it was time for me to leave my home, England.
"Come on then, we don't want to be late for our flight," my mum said excitedly. I just stared blankly at her. Few words had been spoken between us since I was told of the move. I followed her towards the counter where our bags were taken and passports were checked.
After two hours of waiting the plane was ready to board and I was far from ready for it. As I sat in my seat, by the window, I gazed outside looking into the cold harsh rain. Typical Britain, I thought.
As the plane took off a tear left my eye and landed on my hand. This was it. There was no going back now.
Goodbye home.
