I think the 'curse' I put on Tiffany and her friends was really helpful. For the past six months now, she hasn't bothered any of us. When she sees us, she scoffs and walks away. Fine by me. Once, she was giving me the stink eye and when she was about to say something—a nasty comment I assume—I waved my hands around and snapped. She started hyperventilating and touching her face. I laughed really hard at that.
I'm sure y'all are wondering where Colum is. I have been wondering for six months now. It's like he just disappeared from my sight. He stopped crossing paths with me and the only times I saw him was in the classes that we shared. Apart from that, I only caught a few glances of him in the halls. At first, I was worried about him taking revenge on me but when I noticed he wasn't even in my line of vision, I didn't care anymore.
I haven't gone to any party since I came here. I always refuse to go. I'm not all excited about drinking and all. In fact, some promises I made to myself was to never drink and cuss. I have never cussed before. When I'm singing a song where there's swear words, I sing along but zip it when the cussing starts. It's like my mouth automatically glues itself so I can't say the f-word, b-word, etc. I do say damn, shit, crap, bullshit, and freaking sometimes but that's it.
High school parties out here are definitely in my don't-do-often-or-don't-do-at-all list. Having to dress up and party when I can snuggle in my bed while I read Werewolf stories on Wattpad is something I don't wanna do. Buuuuut, Lee and Maureen made me promise to attend Jason's party. Jason is one of Colum's friends. He is part of his Jerktourage. Jerk entourage... jerktourage! Get it? Yes?...No?... okay... Well, everyone was invited so Lee and Maureen made me promise to attend. Actually, they tricked me into promising to attend. Scratch that! They BRIBED me.Flashback
Last week, Lee and Maureen were busily yapping at something during lunchtime. I was so engrossed in my lunch that I didn't pay attention to what they were saying.
"Eyyy yo Tina! Did you hear what we said?" Maureen asked.
"Uhh... yes?"
"Maur leave her alone. She doesn't want the pack of sour candy that we bought for her." Lee sighed dramatically. My ears perked up at the mention of sour candy. Sour candy is my new love, after Nutri-C. Nothing can replace my Nutri baby, but sour candy comes very close to it.
"Lee baby... don't be a meanie." I cooed in my sexiest voice. Sometimes, I like to try seduction on Lee.
"Tina baby! How many times do I have to tell you that your seduction doesn't work on me? You are like a lil sister to me." He ruffled my hair and I groaned, slapping him. Maureen almost chocked on the water she was drinking. You can never get used to Lee's unexpected comments.
"Weirdo. But please give me the sour candy! Pretty please with ice cream and sprinkles on top." I begged.
"Promise to say yes to anything we ask for." Maureen had this smile that told you exactly when she was planning something you wouldn't like.
"No! I won't do it."
"Well then we could just give this candy to Chinelo and Mizpah." She started putting the candy back in to her bag.
"Noooo! I'll do anything you say. Please just give it to me." She sighed and threw the pack to me. I ripped it open, took one out and devoured it. I swear, that candy is the second love of my life.
"Get ready on Saturday evening for Jason's party." I almost spat the candy out.
"WHAAAAAT?!"
"You heard me." She smirked and Lee grinned.
"You monsters! You—you—lil pieces of shit! Thunder fire you all! See your heads like toothpick! Nonsense children! Blockheads! In fact eh, I will sell all of you as meat!" They laughed while I sat there crying and insulting them.
End of flashbackNow, you know how those little pieces of shit tricked me...scratch that... now you know how those little pieces of shit bribed me into promising to attend the party. Remind me never to make a deal with my two devil friends. I need to pray for them. Like seriously they are too cunning to be human beings.
I'm sitting on my on my chair in front of my mirror, applying mascara and lipgloss. I'm not a fan of make up so I finished in no time. I head downstairs when I'm done dressing to tell my mom I'm off.
"Mommy?"
"Hmm?"
"I'm done so I'm going to Maureen's place so we can go to the party."
"Okay. Turn around let me see your dress." I do as she says and she approves of my dressing. I'm dressed in a crop top and a high waist African print skirt. It's not a long skirt but it's not very short either. It's a little higher than my knee but that's okay.
"Don't drink or smoke or sleep with anyone. Am I clear?"
"Ah ah mommy!" I laughed.
"I'm serious oo. Comeback in one piece okay?"
"Okay ma." I was almost out the door when I heard her shout,
"You curfew is still at nine oo. Go with God."
"Yes ma." I shouted back.
"Did you just shout back?" She shouted again. I mentally slapped myself and walked back to the room where she was.
"No mommy?" It sounded more like a question. She looked at me for two minutes and I held her gaze till she finally told me to go.
Since Maureen is my neighbor, all I had to do was walk to her house and we'll go together to the party.
"Good evening Auntie." I greeted Maureen's mother when I reached her house.
"Good evening my dear. Maureen is upstairs." I made my way to her room but when I entered her room, she was surprised to see me so she tripped and fell.
"Owwww!" I giggled at her.
"Why are you so early?" She asked.
"Why are you not dressed?" I rebutted, folding my arms.
"I'm was dressing before you decided to scare me."
"I didn't scare you. I only opened the door."
"Well you did scare me."
"Abeg just dress up." Whenever I'm with Maureen, I revert to my Nigerian accent. Even though she has lost a little of her Ghanaian accent, she still got it. When I'm with Lee, it's in between. I mainly use my Nigerian accent but I also slang a bit. He understands me fairly well when I speak with my Nigerian accent though.
Twenty hairstyles later, Maureen was finally ready. Her mom gave her the same instructions that my mom gave to me. She told her in Twi though. A long lecture later, we went on our way.
"I swear, African moms can talk!" I complained.
"Sometimes I wonder if I will do same to my child?" Maureen added which made me laugh.
"I will do all of the things that my mom is doing to me to my children."
"I like the way you think. PARTY HERE WE COME!" She declared.
I just pray that I don't regret this decision.I think I'm sorry for the time jump... key word, I think🚶🏽♀️How y'all doing? Staying safe and quarantined right?
Glossary:
