lauren's alarm rang quietly, and she rubbed her eyes. after turning off the alarm, she took the blanket off of herself and moved it more towards her daughter and wife, kissing both of their foreheads. the older of the two brunettes mumbled something quietly, her eyes fluttering open. "lolo?.." she asked, her voice laced with sleepiness. "yes, my love?" lauren replied, smiling at the other girl. "where are you going? it's still dark outside..." camila's voice drifted off as she finished her sentence, and the green-eyed girl could tell she was already falling asleep again. "don't worry about it, camz. i'll be back before you know it." lauren said in almost a whisper, slowly backing away from the bed.
their daughter, emma, had a nightmare the night before and climbed in between them at around midnight, a few hours past her bedtime. the six year old always relied on her parents to come save her, and she loved them so much. lauren was so grateful for her family. she had never really had a stable one herself when she was growing up, so she was so happy that she could show that they didn't raise her the way her parents were raised. she was proud, and she was a pansexual cuban american woman who loved like no other.
due to her parents' rocky relationship, she was always scared that she'd grow up to be just like them, a terrible lover and acquaintance. relationships never went well for her, and she feared that she'd never find real love. even though her friends denied it, she really did feel as though she'd be alone forever. however, she felt that way until camila came into her life. the dorkish, adorable girl that made her feel like her heart was beating a million miles an hour and her stomach did ten flips each time camila spoke. she really had met no one like her. she laughed at almost every joke she made, blushed at every compliment she gave her, and smiled at each stupid little note she put around the house for her to find later.
however, part of lauren always felt like she never appreciated them enough. without them, she'd be nothing. she'd struggled for so long, and camila made her life so much better, and she could even say camila saved her life just by being herself. she was anything lauren could ever imagine. camila was... perfect, or at least lauren's own definition of perfect. she never changed for anyone, no matter the circumstance. she lit up every room she went into with her small jokes and big smiles that radiated sunshine.
it hurt lauren to see the love of her life upset. when camila was sad, it felt like the entire world was sad along with her as flowers wilted and winter returned early. she had a lot on her plate; a wife, a daughter, and a music career. after all, she was still in her twenties making a living to support her small family. this weekend was one of the very few she ever got a break, and anyone could tell she was close to burning out. days in and out constantly in the recording booth, meetings to discuss pr, interviews, etc. lauren wanted to treat her, and she'd do just that.
lauren walked into the kitchen, stretching and yawning. she checked the clock, noticing it was only seven a.m., so she still had a lot of time til her babies woke up. she would have to make both pancakes and waffles today. camila loved pancakes, but emma always liked waffles much more. if she had enough time, she'd make chocolate chip muffins so that camila could have fun having a pretend spy mission into the kitchen to steal one with emma, completely unaware that lauren always watches them.
putting her hair up, lauren quickly got out everything she needed and started up the day with a smile, already excited to see the smile on their faces. she loved treating camila with things like this, as small as they were. she showed her love through little things, and her wife never complained. camila, on the other hand, always did big gestures with small things in between. she was always the more chivalrous one, holding doors open for lauren and pulling a chair for her. needless to say, the women both loved each other more than anything, and they were content. the journey to get where they were was long and difficult, but if it meant she'd be able to be with camila, lauren would do it a thousand times more.

sipping her coffee, lauren looked content at the tray in front of her. she was proud of it, she was always known for her cooking skill. while her parents were never around, she had to learn how to cook own her own for her and her siblings. it was about an hour and a half later, and she had made everything for her girls. a cup of coffee and pancakes for camila, a glass of chocolate milk and waffles for emma, and just a muffin for herself, since she wasn't that hungry anyways. putting everything in its assigned place, lauren smiled.
she always enjoyed being more organized than normal, she felt that a clean space meant a clear and open mind... the exact opposite of her wife. she found it ironic, she never believed stereotypes but they really were very different. while lauren always woke up on her side of the bed, camila woke up curled up behind the girl or in a completely different position than she fell asleep in.
she placed down her coffee on the counter, carefully picking up the tray of food. lauren walked slowly to their shared bedroom, pushing the door open with the bottom of her foot. their dog, cleo, happily followed behind her as she placed the drinks down on the nightstand. "rise and shine." lauren said softly, smiling at the two tired girls. "mama?" the toddler said, sitting up from her spot in the bed. she let out a small gasp, "waffles!" camila woke up shortly after, kissing her wife on the cheek. "i love you so much." lauren blushed. "i love you too..."
"did you really make all of this?" the brunette asked, astonished at the works of the green eyed girl. lauren smiled proudly. "yeah, that's why i was up earlier. i got up to make food for you and the little nugget since you're finally home for the weekend." camila smiled, looking at lauren with eyes filled with adoration. "you're too good to me, lauren." she said, yawning afterwards. "i'd like to think we're even. now dig in, loser. it's gonna get cold soon, and i know the only food you like cold is pizza, weirdly enough." lauren chuckled, and camila happily picked up her fork and began to eat.
"mommy, that's gross." emma said to her other mother, and camila frowned playfully. "what is, my little sunflower?" she said, looking at the small girl. "your drink! mama says i'm not allowed to drink coffee because it makes you short when you get older, and i wanna be taller than you when i grow up." the small girl explained through mouthfuls of waffles. camila looked offended, turning to lauren. "you told her i'm short? she's not supposed to know that yet, she's supposed to think i'm the cool mom and you're the boring one." camila said, and lauren smiled softly.
"well, why do you look so short then?" the raven haired girl replied teasingly. "because i am! but to her, i'm tall. let me have this, lo. emma, mommy isn't short. i'm tall. mama is just jealous that i'm cooler than her." the brunette said to her daughter, and the girl just shrugged, continuing to eat her food. "you love me though." lauren said, making eye contact with her wife. "well... i guess." camila said playfully. "you guess? i'll take my pancakes back then, you meanie." the green eyed girl said, reaching for the tray on camila's lap. "no, wait! i take it back! i love you!" she said dramatically.
"s'what i thought-" lauren said, cut off by her wife kissing her, earning a quiet ew from emma. camila giggled, booping lauren on the nose after their quick kiss. they never did much in front of their daughter, but lauren still got butterflies in her tummy whenever camila kissed her. if she was being honest, she'd never be used to the feeling of falling in love constantly. "wait, babe, have you eaten?" camila asked with a concerned look on her face. lauren grabbed her wife's hand. "i ate a muffin earlier, i'm okay. that's sweet of you, though." camila frowned at her wife's response. "too bad. you're sharing this with me." she concluded, and lauren gave her a knowing look.
"are you sure? i know how much you hate sharing food with other people, camz." lauren said. "just take the offer before i change my mind, loser." camila said, picking up a piece of pancake with her fork and feeding it to the other woman. "how chivalrous." lauren joked, and camila smiled. "i'm trying my best here, okay? i just woke up, but i guess i'll have to return the favor later..."
