Wandering

•Aurora's POV•

I've heard many myths about creatures that I simply thought were harmless. Most come in packs. Those who don't are much more ruthless. They live scattered across the country, yet no one has come face to face with one. Some say they have one strong tyrant to rule all packs, others say each pack has a leader. These leaders are known to be the most dangerous. Alphas.

I've left my home in search for answers, not only too physically see these creatures, but to help me figure out who I really am. Every night I have been walking near the woods in hope to see or hear anything. I was never successful until today. When I heard it. A howl.

I shivered as I heard it once again. But this time, another replied. I walked deeper into the woods silently and confidently. Today may be the day I figure out who I am. Or what these creatures are.

The crackling of leaves began to cause my heart to race. Someone or something was here, watching me. My breath hitched as I saw a shadow move by the tree to my left. I took a small step back and heard a low growl come from behind the trees.

It came closer to me. The creature was abnormally big, probably the size of a car. My confidence was beyond gone along with my interest for answers. What I heard next made me flinch and cringe. The sound of cracking bones. The creature was bent down about ten feet away from me. There was no sound or movement coming from this unusual being. Maybe this was my chance to make a run for it, or so I thought. The minute I shifted my body the shadow stood up and looked at me with it's glowing eyes.

The myth never mentioned anything about the creatures shifting into other forms, but then again, myths aren't accurate. In this moment I prayed for dear life that the myth was wrong, that these creatures had a kind heart and were harmless. I heard more leaves crackling and more of these shadows appearing. Before I could do anything I was surrounded by 10 of these dark figures.

My heart was beating out of my chest and my stomach was in knots. This was it. The end of me. I shut my eyes waiting for any pain to come but then a howl, a very loud viscous one, broke the silence. My body began to shake as I saw the creatures disappear into the woods. Was that their leader? I looked around to make sure I was alone than ran. I made it to my car safely and drove to my apartment. My mind was full of so many questions. What were those things? My near death experience just made my curiosity grow much more. Tomorrow I will go back, but this time during the daylight. Who knows, I may find something that will change my life forever, or end it.
