"THOMAS!" I tried to grab the back of shirt but it was too late. He squeezed himself into the maze and the doors shut. Thomas... why? "THOMAS!" I shouted again and ran up the the now shut door. I dropped to my knees and lay my head against the door. "Thomas..." I whispered. I then felt a large hand on my shoulder.
"Get up. Come on." Gally.
I stood up and he took his hand away.
"You gotta crush or somethin?"
"N-no, I just-"
"Slim it. It's fine." He walked away after saying that. What's with him? Slim it? Shank? Greenie? What is this?
I sighed and walked back to the homestead. I sat down on my "bed" and just thought. Thomas was my only friend. He's gone, dead... he said it himself. No man has survived a night in the maze to talk about it. What do I do now? I've come to this horrible place with no friends, no memory, and now my only friend basically just killed himself. I tried to stop my thoughts and lie down. I heard Gally come in, so I turned on my side and pretended to sleep. I could hear him talking with Newt.
"What do you think of greenie here?" Gallys voice. I can recognize it.
"Didn't really get to have a conversation with er, "Captain Gally." He says in a joking tone. Captain Gally?
"I don't know. Something sketchy with this girl." Gally answers, completely ignoring Newts nickname.
"Yeah, she's the first girl."
"No, shuck face. It's different. Something different."
"Gally, she's a girl. You're a guy. That "different" feeling is a crush. Night."
Gally never answered Newt after that. Newt left and Gally got in his hammock.
"Greenie," he whispered. To me. "You awake?" Of course I am... but I'm pretending to sleep hehe.
He sighed and I heard him shift. I guess he's decided to sleep. It's hard for me to even focus on sleep but I'm tired. I can't stop thinking about Thomas...

It was dark. Cold. I couldn't see a thing. I heard the echo of muffled screams in the vast blackness. "Shelby!" My name... That's my name! I remember! Wait, that's Thomas' voice. Saying my name...
"T-Thomas? THOMAS!" I ran. I don't know where to, but I ran as fast as I could. No obstacles in my way, nothing, just pitch black. I had to find him, I had to get him back. He was my only hope in this place and I needed him back. Now. "Thomas! Thomas where are you!"
"Shelby!"
Everything stopped. Time stopped. The lights finally shone through the horrible darkness. I felt backward, my hands on the ground. What is this place? Why are we here? I finally looked up, and Thomas, he was there. Standing there. Why?
"Thomas!" I stood up and ran to approach him, but he didn't move. "Thomas...?"
"Greenie."
"Thomas what?"
"GREENIE!"

I awoke to Gallys voice. "Greenie."
"Gally?"
"You were having a bad dream. I had to wake you. If I didn't you'd wake every boy in here with your shuck thrashing and heavy breathing."
"I'm sorry..." I muttered, wondering how this boy had no respect for anyone.
"It's... fine. Do you need something to drink or something?"
"Uh, yeah sure."
He nodded and left without saying another word. Maybe he had some sympathy after all. I sat up and wiped the sweat off of my forehead. Shelby... I got my name back. I hope Thomas is alright... I'm so worried. Gally came back shortly with a glass of water.
"Here."
"Do you think Thomas will make it?"
"Thomas? He's only been here a month. So I'd say no. I'm going back to sleep."
"Gally please..." I don't care right now. I'm desperate for someone to talk to right now, and if it's Gally than it's Gally.
"What, shank?"
"My name. I know my name. It's Shelby."
"Alright, Shelby. Can I sleep now?"
"Answer me one thing first..."
He sighed, but I can't see his facial expression in the dark. "Why don't you like me?"
"Who said I don't?"
"You call me names... and give me dirty looks. I feel a tension between us..."
"I have to. I'm the only sense of authority here when Albys gone. I can't show liking to green beans like you."
"Where's Alby?"
"In the maze."
"Right now?"
"Go to bed. You're gonna feel like klunk in the morning if you don't get any sleep."
"Goodnight, Gally..."
And it was silent.
