The sound of the front door slamming shut woke the baby. Mary sighed and walked back upstairs and into the bedroom, picking up baby Mia and cradling her close to her body until she fell asleep again. Mary lowered Mia back into the crib and went downstairs to greet her husband, who was sitting on the couch downstairs, staring fowards blankly.

'If you could try not to slam that door so loudly,' she said, 'that'd be great.'

'Did you know that Sherlock had a sister?' John said, ignoring Mary's remark.

'Since when?' Asked Mary, raising an eyebrow.

'Since twenty-eight years ago!' exclaimed John.

'And he never thought to mention her to you?'

'Not once!' said John. 'And to top it all off, on her eighteenth birthday, apparently she decided to run off and remain completely unseen for a decade.'

'So she just... Disappeared?' Mary said. 'And now she's back?'

'Apparently!' said John.

'Well, where is she now?'

'She's staying at Sherlock's place,' said John. 'God knows what'll happen next. Sherlock almost kicked her out.'

'He would've left his own sister out on the streets?'

'He said he knew that she knew she'd end up staying,' said John. 'He also called her a manipulative bitch, though.'

'Over all these years,' said Mary, 'did no one think to look for her?'

'Of course they did,' said John, recalling his earlier conversations with Sherlock. 'Sherlock had his homeless network on it as soon as it was developed. Mycroft was climbing up the ladder in the government by then, so he had people out there, too. Service agents, policemen, private I's - the lot, in every country. No one could find her.'

'Surely there must've been some trace,' said Mary. 'Some kind of trail she followed when she left, some indication of where she went.'

'Not that anybody knows of,' said John. 'Believe me, from what Sherlock said, they tried absolutely everything possible.'

'Have you tried asking her?'

'Well - no, but -'

'Well, that might be a good place to start.' Mary finished matter-of-factly, before turning the TV on.
