I rolled over and groaned at the sound of my alarm clock going off. I slammed my hand down on the buzzing machine and threw the covers off of me. A shiver ran down my back as the cool air hit my bare legs. I made my way around my room grabbing the necessities for a shower.

After a nice relaxing rinse, I stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around my body. I walked over to the mirror and reached out to wipe the steam away. I looked up at my reflection to see my brunette locks dripping water from the ends.

I grabbed the blow dryer and plugged it into the socket. After my hair was completely dry, I smiled at the final product. Exiting the bathroom, I walked over to my closet and scanned my wardrobe a few times. I snatched up a pair of distressed jean capris and an oversized sweater. I slipped on my converse and threw my hair up into a messy ponytail.

I woke up early this morning to fit in a quick skype call with my best friend Dakota before school. She was currently visiting her dad in Ireland while he had some time off of work to spend with her. Her parents split up when she was six and her dad's job uprooted him to the small country in Europe.

"It's so good to see your face. I miss you Kota! You've been gone for wayyyyyy too long," I whined into the camera when she answered the call. She giggled and shook her head at me with an eye roll.

"I just left two days ago Kenz," she retorted.

"Soooooooooo? Two days is wayyyyyyy too long without your best friend," I pointed out. She broke out into a grin and nodded her head in agreement.

"That is true," she confirmed. "But not for someone like you who literally has a gazillion friends," she exaggerated. I gave her an 'are you serious right now' look. She giggled again.

"One, I do not have a gazillion friends," I rolled my eyes before continuing. "And two, they are not my best friend. You know EVERYTHING. All my dirty secrets."

"Dirty secrets?" she wrinkled her nose in confusion. "You mean that you sit at home in a onsie on Saturday nights eating ding dongs while watching Teen Titans reruns?" she asked while laughing her head off.

I gave her a death glare and sat with a straight face as I watched her laugh for the next five minutes. When she calmed down and wiped the tears away, she gave me a small smile.

"You are to never speak of that again. Do you understand me missy?" I glared even more. She giggled but nodded her head along anyways.

"KENZIE!!!!!!" I heard Matt yell up the stairs. I looked over toward my door. "HURRY UP! WE'RE LEAVING!" he screamed again. I shook my head at his barbarian ways. That boy will never learn.

"Hey Kota, I have to go. It's time to leave for school. Text me, kay?" I asked as I turned back around. She wasn't there. I was left staring at a wall. "Kota?" I questioned moving a little closer to the screen. I heard some banging around on her end and then some swears. I laughed and shook my head.

"Dakota Elaine Mitchell! Watch your language young lady!" her dad screamed before I could make the same remark. I heard her mumble about how he didn't just stub his toe and how he would be reacting the same way if he had. I laughed and watched as her face reappeared onto the screen.

"So, I'll talk to you later?" she asked with a hopeful look.

"Of course babe. I really do miss you. We must totally have a sleepover when you get back and you can catch me up on all the hot Irish gossip and boys," I winked and blew a kiss before smiling and ending the call.

I grabbed my bag off the ground and my phone from the bedside table. I was ready to tackle this Wednesday head on.

The car ride was filled with the usual banter I share with my siblings on the way to school. We talked about our after school plans and dinner for tonight. Mom and Dad were out of town on a 'couple's retreat' and wouldn't be home until Sunday night. I was happy for the two, although I was totally jealous they were chilling in Hawaii right now.
