Description: A girl named Cassie Sutton-blonde hair, blue eye. She meets a Duke Barton, a vampire, during the rough times of her life. She falls herself into a struggle trying to help him. Trying to solve the problem, she finds that she had already...
"Are you alright my child. I think you saw some terrible dream about your father. " inquired an old lady sitting next to Duke.
Duke, who was just coming back to his senses looked around. There were many people in that compartment than earlier. His glance shifted toward the source of the flute-like voice. A tall scrawny woman with smoky-grey hair which harmonized with her twinkling eyes.
" Ye...Yes, I'm fine. I...I just "
" Here have this, you'll feel better. " interrupted the old lady, handing Duke a bottle of water.
Duke took it and thought that if it was blood then he would've felt much better. He looked outside through the window. It's dawn.
" What's the time? "
" It's six. Looks like you had a very long sleep. "
" Yeah. I've never slept this long, before. "
" Well, you've got an eternity ahead. " the old lady whispered, with a smile.
Duke with vexing, took it as an old-age joke and smiled back. Then he looked into the bottle.
" Don't worry it's vervain - free. " said the old lady.
Duke was astounded by the word ' vervain '.
" How do you know? " Duke enquired, agitatedly.
" What? That you're allergic to vervain or to be specific, [ after a pause ] that you're a vampire. "
" How do you know that? " Duke questioned again, anxiously.
" Oh boy, don't be tensed. I didn't mean to frighten you. I'm a witch. "
" Witch. " Duke interrupted, with raised eyebrows.
" Yes. I have seen many like you. And I also know that you're a good one. "
Duke didn't know what to say or ask, but he had many confusing questions in his mind. He gulosiously gulped some water.
" Thanks. [ after a second of pause ] Humm...Can I ask you something? "
" Yeah, sure. "
Suddenly, the train started to slow down.
" Can you tell something more about me. "
" What do you wanna know? "
" Something....something that I don't know. Maybe about my future. "
" Okay. [ she paused for a second, staring into Duke's eyes ] One day in the future, you'll choose to stay and fight back you're fear. " the old lady said.
Duke smiled and nodded as if it was never gonna happen. The train stopped in the middle of nowhere.
" Why would have the train stopped here? " Duke enquired.
" Well, special people need special places to find answers to all their questions. "
" I didn't understand. "
" Maybe you should just jump out and explore. Who knows, sometimes you'll find something to hold on to and stay. " [ after a pause ] " It's a safe place for runners, like you. "
Duke looked outside and all that he could see was a vivacious forest.
"Are you sure I'll be safe here? I mean, how can you assure something like that to a person, who is not safe anywhere on earth? " enquired Duke, looking at the old lady.
" It's more than enough to shut your craving. And, don't think that you've any other 'SAFE' destination to reach; Do you? " asked the old lady, with a grin on her face.
Duke felt like she was reading his mind. Finally, he got out with the backpack on his shoulders and the train started as soon as he got out.
" Enjoy your eternity, don't waste it. "
" What's your name? " asked Duke, walking as the train moved.
" It doesn't matter child. The thing that matters is your locket, don't lose it. "
On the word, ' locket ' Duke stopped and hastily touched his chest. The locket was still hidden under his T-shirt. He was thinking of how she knew about it, as the train swiftly passed him. Duke had heard about witches, but it was the first time that he saw one. He wanted to know more about the locket and now he regretted getting off the train. Duke was craving therefore he rushed into the woods with his vampire speed. He stopped and concentrated as there were lots of heartbeats. Suddenly, he heard a group of squirrels squeaks. He walked slowly towards that direction. He saw a group of squirrels eating cookie crumbles on the ground, in front of a huge tree.
" Cookies? " Duke said furrowing his eyebrows.
Duke planned to hide behind the tree, leap, snatch and feed as many as he could. Just before leaping for the vampire snatch, he decided to take a foot forward. That's when he noticed her. A young girl was sitting under that tree. She was wearing a black sweatshirt, jugging's and pink sneakers.
" Probably a high school girl who came to the woods for jogging. " Duke thought.
Duke quietly took one more step forward, to learn her. Her golden blonde hair strands were falling off from her hoodie disturbing her intoxicating innocent blue eyes, now and then. Her white skin turned golden were the sun rays hit with a subtle rosy glow around her cheeks. She was feeding the squirrels while taking a few bits of cookies for herself. She is a really good artist, it was evident from the drawings of the squirrels on the art book placed on her lap.
Duke almost forgot his craving for a moment. But suddenly, Duke noticed something unusual. He is not able to hear her heartbeats. Neither is he able to smell the presence of any human flesh or blood in that surrounding.
