We just pulled over in front of my school right now. And I feel numb, it seems as if I'm loosing it. I'm panicking! Anie doesn't panic. I don't panic !
" Heyy Anie! Are you okay" I heard my dad say not realizing that I had completely zoned out. And Alex was nowhere to be found, so I looked outside the tinted window and found him waiting outside impatiently for me. He looked kinda annoyed.
I snapped back to reality and said " Yeah, yeah...totally...I'm good. I'd just go in dad".
He just sighed as nodded and I gave an award winning smile as I got down from the car ."What's happening sis, why did you just zone out. Do you have any idea of how many times I called you, I even thought you couldn't hear me because of your headphones so I took them from you "
I didn't even realize he was holding them. And after that, I still tried calling you to get down but you didn't even move or flinch, What's wrong, you know you can tell me anything right ". I sighed and kept head low.
"Well I'm sorry okay, I'm just a little nervous, I'm-I was cut off by Alex laughing. Then I was taken aback .
"What in the world is so funny right now when I'm panicking ?!!" I said clearly annoyed .
"Just calm down ,you see the Anie I know as my sister never gets nervous. You have always been stronger than me emotionally,so what's different now" he said.
"What's different is that I don't know if I'm going to be accepted, I don't if I'd get any friends. You are a guy, sure it's easy for you to gain friends. But me! I could really faint right now. I don't want to be judged by colour, what if there are racists there too. What if —". I was cut off again. By this time. I was really out of it.
"Anie breathe, breathe okay! Nobody would do anything to you as long as I'm here, you are gonna be fine trust me. Just keep your head up high and don't let them get to you. Sure they would be jerks!but you don't have to mind them. You have to be strong, okay?".
"Okay Alex, thanks I feel so much better. You are the best " I sighed as I hugged him.
"Yes I know, you don't have to tell me " he smirked and I just rolled my eyes.
"Can we go now, we have to get our schedules remember?"
I nodded and followed him inside but not before saying a quick prayer to God.
This is it. I'm really going do it! Who am I kidding, it's not as if I'd cope. I mean this is an American freaking high school. Just as if he was reading my mind Alex just sighed and said "You just keep worrying yourself, what do I tell you about this situation that would make you stop moving in your tracks for the third time before we even get to the hall way!?? Don't worry you would cope,I'm right here okay? "
I slightly nodded and we kept walking together to the main door of the school. Then just like in the movies in slow motion, Alex opened the door and everyone in the hall way just snapped their head towards us, I didn't say anything I just kept my head high and took in small breaths with Alex by my side I was confident.
I was confused as to why they were all looking at us. Like I mean c'mon, haven't you ever seen cute Nigerians before! Oh well, I'm not sure. I giggled and then Alex giggled too. Wait why are we giggling, I'm not sure why. I'm really getting out of my mind!
All eyes were still on us. Okay! I'm getting uncomfortable now. Can they like stop staring. Just when I was about to give up and faint from all the attention was when a slim woman with a short sleeved navy blue shirt and black skirt hugging her curves came to us saved me.
She's a brunette and she has light brown eyes to compliment her hair. She is very pretty, I think she must be in late 20's.
"You must be Mr and Miss Jones right? " We nodded with a smile. "Nice to meet you, I'm Miss Amanda Gomez. I'm going to be your English teacher and I'm also supposed to take you to the admin office to get your schedules, do you mind going now because classes would start in less than 10 minutes " she said while looking at her watch.
"Yes ma'am we would like to go now, I'm not sure coming late to class on my first day would be a good idea" I said.
She smiled and told us to come with her. We arrived at an oak door, and before she guided us inside I took in a sharp breath.
"Good morning Mrs Belle, We have new students and I'm here to hand them their schedules ordered by the principal, can I have two please" Miss Amanda said. She finally looked up from her desktop, when she saw us she smiled at us and giggled.
"You guys are really cute, where are you from?"
Before I could speak Alex beat me to it."Actually ma'am, we just moved here from Nigeria a week ago"
"That's nice, I hope you enjoy your stay here. Good luck! " she said with a grin as she handed us our schedules.
"Okay Mrs Belle, I'd see you later. Bye" Miss Amanda said as she led us to the door to go out. I just sighed, well that was quick. Let's get this over with. Who am I kidding, the day is just starting! And it already liked as if I've spent five hours here.
I looked over my schedule and I saw that I had English first hour. I nudged Alex and asked him what he has first hour and he said he also has English.
"Can I see both of your schedules please?". Alex and I handed it over to her. "Oh wow, you are both having my class now. Let's be fast or else we would be late for the first hour".
She smiled at us and we also smiled too. Her smile was really contagious. I think she's going to be my best teacher.
We continued walking until we got to a classroom door, when she opened it all the noise stopped and all eyes were on us again! Seriously!
