(Skylar's POV)

"I don't get why I can't stay home." I scream downstairs.

"You've stayed home for 4 days, you can't afford to miss anymore school." My mom yells back. I groan, climbing out of bed, and throwing on some jeans and a sweatshirt. The usual. My phone buzzes on the bedside table.

I place my phone in my back pocket and walk out into the cold Norfolk air.
"Hey! Over here!" Anika screams, waving me over.

"Hi." I whisper under my breath, pulling my hood over my head.

"Look look look." She mumbles, flashing me a picture of Jeffrey.

"Cool." I reply, pulling out my own phone.

"What's up with you?" She asks, with an annoyed tone.

"Nothing." I respond, not bothering to look up.

"It's always something, Sky." She mutters.

"Just forget it, come on. We're gonna be late." I answer.

We drag ourselves to school and part ways to go to our separate classes, which happens to be my least favorite class. History.

"Hey." Jackie says enthusiastically. I flash her a fake smile, and take my seat by Katie.

"See what Jeffrey posted?" She asks.

"Yes." I mumble, opening my textbook.

"You're going to have to tell m-" She starts, when Patrick walks in, with his girlfriend.

"Don't you need to get to class?" He whispers in her ear.

"I got time." She whispers, biting her lip, and sitting on his lap.

"Pft. High school. Right?" Katie scuffs, rubbing her eyes.

"Guess so." I answer shortly.

History lasts for what seems like forever, and Patrick chatting with his friends behind me doesn't make it any better. You can probably figure out my reasoning for history being my least favorite class. When the bell finally rings, I shuffle out the door, ahead of Patrick. Katie finally catches up with me, halfway down the hall.

"I don't get you." She complains, grabbing my arm to slow me down.

"Get what?" I ask, releasing my arm.

"You are so out of his league, I don't get why you don't just talk to him." She admits, waving to a friend passing by.

"I don't wanna talk about it." I snap.

"Whatever Sky." She mutters, walking off in the other direction.

"What was that all about?" Someone asks, I flip around to see Jeffrey, with a smirk on his face.

"Just high school." I respond a little annoyed.

"Yeah. Well we all go through it." He answers, shrugging.

A silence falls as we both walk to gym. Patrick races up to Jeffrey and fist-bumps him, causing them both to laugh. I feel my hands start to shake as I continue down the hallway with them. They seem to forget I'm even there so I rush into the girls locker room, without saying a single word.
