He couldn't take his eyes away.

His heart faltered in his chest as he watched his world burn.

The entire reason for his existence, the masters he had served loyally to the end, all burning in the flames like porcelain dolls.

The silhouettes of murders and betrayers by the flames stood out like a panther in snow.

He clenched his jaw as hatred and disgust began to coil in his gut.

They were all insane.

To want people like the Trisector to rule over them, instead of their current King and Queen, who had ruled with a fair and just hand.

How they had even found the castle he struggled to comprehend.

But it didn't matter now.

It was gone.

Or, almost.

The tiny sliver of hope left for his majesty's legacy was wrapped tightly in his arms, sound sleep from the drug.

Fussy infants made midnight escape somewhat difficult.

Even from this distance, the bonfire scorched his skin.

There was no reason for him to stay anymore.

Nothing worth protecting here now.

But once he looked away, he would probably never see this place again.

He wasn't a sentimental man, never had been.

But the memories made here he realised now, how much he had taken them for granted, the people he had served with. He gladly called them friends.

The sacrifices they made to let him get away with the child would not be in vain.

He was Inderius. King John's right hand man. A heart of steel. Forever in service to his king.

He placed his fisted hand over his heart, one last salute, before he dissappeared into the shadows of the night.
