Ch. 1

Mariah

I popped my gum leaning against the counter as my girls was sipping from their glasses i made them.

"Girl, when you get off?" Monica asked placing her glass on the counter and i sucked my teeth leaning off the counter and grabbed the rag and started to dry the counter off from someone previously throwing liquor on here.

"When the club closes, duh" I said as i saw some guys walk to the bar making me sigh walking over to them letting my hips lean on the counter.

"What can i get for you?" I asked as my hair tried to fall to my face but i flicked it back.

"A glass of Whiskey" The man said sliding a $30 on the counter and i grabbed it putting it in the register and grabbed a glass pouring a bottle of whiskey and poured it for him sliding it to him.

I bite my lip as i ran my hand through my hair popping my gum once again seeing the men standing there staring at me.

"Is there a problem?" I asked crossing my arms and they chuckled.

"Man, it should be a crime for how sexy you are baby" One of them smirked and i smacked my lips.

"How about you and your one dollar pick up lines go all the way back to the corner around there?" I asked placing my hand on my hip.

I heard laughs come from where my girls were and i chuckled at myself. "Baby, you must not know who i am"

"Am i supposed to? I think not." I said raising an eyebrow up at him.

"Matter of fact, yes. You do. I'm Marcus Williams. Keep that name in yo mind baby." He smiled and i scoffed curling up my lip as i clicked on my gum.

"Yeah, aight. If you don't mind Marcus, but i gotta get back to work" I said side-eyeing him while seeing a guy sit at the bar with shades on his eyes with a snapback on his head.

Marcus smiled nodding me off and i rolled my eyes making my way to the guy. He was too focus on his phone to notice me standing in front of him.

"What can i get for you?" I asked leaning down so i was in his face and he looked up at me and licked his lips.

"3 Jello Shots." He said looking up and i chuckled biting my lip.

"Shots? Trying to get turnt up already? Aha aight, what color? Red or Blue" I asked pulling out 3 shot glasses.

"Surprise me," He said still looking at his phone and i sighed deciding on the blue.

I passed him the three shot glasses and he slide a $20 on the table and i took it putting it in the cash register.

I saw him take his glasses off his eyes and i almost died, but i just kept calm putting a smile on my face.

I observed his features as he took his shots, his tattoos on his face. The way those gold sluggs look in his teeth.

"August. August Alsina, right?" I asked leaning on the counted smiling at him and he looked at me.

"In the flesh. You'a fan?" August asked licking his lips again and i shrugged. "You can say that. Is this what you do? Go to a strip club on your free time?" I asked him clicking on my gum.

"Only on occasions. You'a dancer?" He asked looking me up and down and i laughed.

"You wish. Pfft, never would i get my ass on that pole. I'd make a fool of myself! I just work behind this bar and do my magic" I said laughing.

"Why you chose to do this?" August asked and i shrugged.

"I need the money...i have personal reasons" I said.

"I understand whatchu comin' from. Jus' know its whateva' you'a choose ta do," August said before getting up and leaving the bar and i watched him leave while biting on my bottom lip.

"So how about that number?" Marcus smiled at me and i scoffed giving him the finger and walked to the back.

"Mommy!" Cresha exclaimed once i walked into my small apartment and i smiled at her 3 year old self as she ran into my arms.

"Hey, baby" I smiled kissing her cheek and i looked up at the babysitter.

"How was she?" I asked her as i held Cresha on my hip.

"A angel as always" Samantha said gathering her stuff together.

"Awe that's my baby. Go upstairs and get your bath water started, mommy will be in there in a second" I told her putting her down and she nodded running to the bathroom.

"How much?" I asked pulling out my wallet looking up at Samantha.

"20 dollars," Samantha said and i pulled a twenty out handing it to her.

"See you tomorrow," I said as she was about to walk out and she nodded giving me a smile before rushing out.

I sighed putting my stuff on the counter and dragged myself to the hall closet pulling out a big towel and a small towel and walked into the bathroom.

I sat the towels on the toilet, and pulled my hair up in a high ponytail. "Get in baby"
