so what is decimals?

decimals = A decimal is any number in our base-ten number system The decimal point is used to separate the ones place from the tenths place in decimals

 types of decimals

 Terminating decimal numbers = These decimal numbers have a finite number of digits after the decimal point

 Non - terminating decimal numbers = Recurring Decimal Numbers =  Non -recurring decimal numbers  

like decimal  =  the decimals having the same number of decimal places are called like decimals

 unlike decimal = the decimals having not the same number of decimals places are called unlike decimals

Decimal Fraction- It represents the fraction whose denominator in powers of ten

now lets understand the  places of decimals

0.0057 =  57/10000    as 57 also has two places 

0.134   =    134/1000   as 134 as three place 

0.2        =   2/10              as 2 has a place too

1.444   =    1444/1000 as 444 has three places

convert decimal to fractions 

124/1000 =  0.124 

34/10         = 3.4 

45/1000    = 0.045 

89/100       = 0.89 

now lets place decimals in a numberline and compare decimals 

0.8 and 0.1

now lets compare decimals

0.024  < 0.24  this is because 0.24 has endless zeroes going after it while 0.024 has a 0 before it making the number smaller 

now we learn to add or subtract 

 5.9 - 4.02 = 

so first we make the decimals like fraction 5.90 - 4.02 =1.88

same with addition like

4.32+ 3.600 = 7.920
