Daichi POV
I headed to the east side of the island to start to do my research. The fog here is really interesting. Even when the sun is shining it's brightest it never goes away. It's like a permanent shadow that won't go away.
I was almost done collecting the plants I needed when I heard something. It didn't sound like an animal. It sounded, angelic.
When the sun found the moon
She was drinking tea in a garden
Under the green umbrella trees
In the middle of summerWhen the moon found the sun
He looked like he was barely hanging on
But her eyes saved his life
In the middle of summer
I started to walk towards the sound against my will. It was almost hypnotic.
In the middle of summer
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
Summer, summer, summer, summer
All was golden when the day met the nightSo he said, "Would it be all right
If we just sat and talked for a little while
If in exchange for your time
I give you this smile?"
I turned and looked up. There sitting in the trees was Suga, singing like no one was watching.
He paused his singing to catch his breath and I took the opportunity to say,
"You're really good."
He turned around so fast that he fell out of the tree. He was sitting pretty high up, so it was quite the fall.
"Suga!" I ran to where he would have fallen and caught him, I was holding him bridal style and his arms were wrapped around my neck.
He blushed and said,
"H-hi."
If I wasn't blushing before I was now. I put him down and we kind of stood there awkwardly.
"It's cool that you can sing." I said nervously.
"Well, when you have 300 years of nothing to do, you have to get good at something." He laughed.
"Wait what? Did you say 300 years?"
He suddenly looked nervous.
"Hey, do you have any more of those cookie things?"
"You didn't answer my question."
"You also didn't answer mine." He replied.
"No, I don't have any cookies. Now could you answer my question?"
He pouted and then sighed.
"Promise not to tell anyone about this."
"I promise."
"Then follow me."
He started to walk into the fog. It was hard to keep up with him since he was walking do fast, and you could only see about 3 feet in front of you.
After about 10 minutes of walking he stopped suddenly. Not seeing where I was going I walked straight into a tree.
"Oww..." I started to rub my head. I looked up to see something quite out of the ordinary.
It was a sort of cross between a temple and a cabin. It looked perfectly at home in the middle of a scary forest.
Suga walked up the steps and looked hesitant to walk in. After a few deep breaths he slowly opened the door. He turned around to look at me.
"What are you doing down there, come on up here I need to show you something."
I got up and followed him inside.
The 'house' had only one room. It was empty, except for a metal plaque on the wall. Suga gestured for me to walk up to it. I did and started to read the writing.
Until three come, and three fall in love, no one shall age and no one shall drum. When these three come, the fog will lift, and love will reign again.
I turned around to see Suga staring at the floor nervously. He looked up and said,
"So, do you now you know what I mean by I had 300 years of nothing to do?"
"Yeah, I think so. And out of curiosity, how old are you really?"
He looked hesitant to answer, but then spoke up.
"If we go by looks, i'm 18. If we go by actual years, i'm 342." He chuckled nervously.
A look of shock washed over my face. How could this happen? Magic didn't exist. Did it?
"Do you mind telling me the story?" I asked slowly.
"Yeah sure. It's kind of long so you might want to sit down."
~Story time. This is still Suga's POV though~
"I think the year was 1678. I was 17 at the time when our village was burned. Since we couldn't stay anywhere near where we were, we decided to try and find somewhere new, away from the mainland. After about 2 days traveling on water we reached this island. We set up camp and got used to our new surroundings. At this point the island was almost always sunny and nothing really bad ever happened. Everyone was happy. Until one fateful night. It was a foggy and we had 2 new people arrive on our island. They seemed friendly enough so we let them stay with us. That night they did something horrible. They went around and killed 15 people."
I saw Daichi shiver. I continued my story.
"All I could hear were the screams of people I had known all my life. That night both my mother and best friend were sent to the land of the dead. The chief managed to kill one but had trouble with the other. The chief had him up against a tree and was about to spear him when the man muttered the same poem as the one on the wall. Suddenly, the fog became so thick that you couldn't see your own hand if it was right in front of your face. When the fog cleared enough to see, the man was long gone. We buried our dead and went about our lives like normal. Except we started to notice something strange. None of us got any older no matter what happened. Even if you were on the verge of death the spell would stop you from going over the edge. We've tried so many things to break this curse, except doing what it says."
I started to cry, not being able to chock out another word.
I heard Daichi get up and come over to where I was sitting. He pulled me into a hug and let me cry onto his shoulder.
I could stay like this forever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is officially the longest chapter I have ever written.
The backstory was darker than I meant it to be but what are ya gonna do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I kinda hate that the backstory is in paragraphs but I don't feel like re-writing it because it's 9 and i'm super tired.
*screams*
