The invasion

I will never forget that day. They made the streets run red with blood and bodies as they continued their massacre, working their way to the palace. I knew who they were coming for. We all did. They were coming for the King and Queen, determined to kill them along with Princess Anneliese. We all know that anyone who stood in their way would be killed but there were a few who did not care. They were the ones who had nothing to their name, no families to go home to and nothing to lose. I was one of them. I had been orphaned at a young age and had lived in the palace, working at a stable boy. My farther had been friends with the King and had saved his life on more than one occasion. When the King and Queen found out about my parents death they offered to take me in and let me live at the palace. I agreed on one condition: that I had to be a stable boy. I had loved horses ever since the first time I set eyes on my father’s black steed, Midnight. I spent all of my free time with Midnight, training him and teaching him tricks. When my father found out he sent men to kill him and forced me to watch. He said that only stable boys spend all their free time with horses.

“Are you a stable boy?” he shouted in my face. Numb with shock I shook my head. A slap burned its way across my face as my father roared in rage.

“If you insist on behaving like a stable boy then I will make you a stable boy. Consider this your only warning.” He snarled as he left me standing alone before the body of Midnight. Sobbing I crumpled to the ground and hugged his body to my chest. That was the day I vowed to never let my father find out about the baby that Midnight’s mate had birthed. I would look after Sliver Moon even if I was made a stable boy. I would never let my father kill her.

Shaking off the memory’s before they had a chance to overwhelm me I ran to the palace hoping to be able to get to the Princess before they had a chance to. Running I flew through the palace towards Princess Anneliese’s room. I could hear crash’s and screams as I ran faster and faster towards the Princess’s chambers. I knew that I did not have time to waste. Turning the final corner I saw her room and a feeling of dread washed over me. Her door was hanging in pieces off the hinges, the floor scattered with broken off pieces of wood. I could still hear the clash of steel and screams of terror coming from further in the room. I knew that there was only a small chance that the Princess would still alive for much longer. Running I pull out my sword and rush towards the screams. I find the Princess cowering in fear as the last of her personal guard is cut down in front of her. Standing above her grinning like a mad man is one of them. One of the Great Destroyers. The one and only terror in the once peaceful world of Dragoria.

Running I launch myself at him pushing him away from the Princess.

“I will not let you touch the Princess. This I swear.” I say as I point the tip of my sword at him. A grin slowly slides across his face as he does the same.

“You’re going down little boy.” He snarls as he lunges at me. Sidestepping I launch into a flurry of attacks. My blade was so fast that you could only see a blur as it sliced throw the air. Seeing an opening I fake a lunge to the left, circle round and bash him over the head with the flat of my blade. Spinning I drop to the ground and using my sword swipe his legs out from under him. Standing I place me sword at his throat and growl,

“I won’t let you lay a hand on my princess.” Then in one movement I swipe my sword causing an arc of blood to form in the air above our heads. After cleaning my blade and returning it to its scabbard I turn to the Princess.

“Do you trust me?” I ask. Seeing her nod I grab her hand and we run.
