Emily pov
"Yes mum, I'll be fine. No, I won't do drugs. No, there's no alcohol. Yes, Hanna's mum will be here. Yes, I'll be home tomorrow." I said into the phone.
I was stood on the doorstep of Hanna's house, in a conversation with my mother. I had only rung her to ask if I could stay over. However, that soon turned into a pledge of alleigence to no drugs, no alcohol and no parties. My mother was making me promise to behave myself.
"Are you sure, Emily?" She asked, her voice full of concern. How could she not believe me?
"No, mum, there's this huge party with half naked boys who are going to take my virginity, and I'm going to drink until my blood turns into alcohol, and..." I laughed way too much, and my mother gave a tut of annoyance.
"Emily, be serious." She scolded. But I knew she believed I would be safe.
"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow?" It came out as sort of a question, because she hadn't really given me permission to stay over.
"I'll see you tomorrow." She confirmed, and then hung up.
I walked back into Hanna's house, deciding to play a trick on her. I made this sad face, and then grabbed my jacket.
"What's wrong? Where are you going?" Hanna asked, confused as she followed me to the door.
"My mum said I have to go home." I said, fake frown in place. I tried my hardest to make it believable, and her expression was priceless.
"Really?" she sounded on the verge of tears, and she was almost there.
"Not really, stupid. She said I can stay as long as I don't drink or do drugs." I made it out as a joke, as I playfully slapped her arm before hanging my jacket up.
"Phew. Thought I was gonna have to sneak out in the middle of the night to see you." She said, pretending to wipe away sweat from her forehead. I looked at her in awe, and she averted her gaze, blushing slightly.
"You would do that for me? Sneak out in the middle of the night?" Nobody would normally do something like that for me. The most Ben ever did was bring me a flower and give me a kiss.
"Of course I would." She said, and then gave me a quick kiss on my cheek. It tingled, and I brought my hand up to touch where her lips had been.
"Han?" I asked, and she spun around to face me.
"Yeah?"
"I love you." I blurted out. I was going to ask something, but I just blurted out the three words that I never normally said.
Hanna looked taken aback. I watched as the different emotions crossed her face. I recognised shock, adoration, disbelief and one other I couldn't quite place.
"There's something I want to show you." She said, taking my hand and leading me up the stairs. We reached her room, and she sat me down on her bed. She closed the door, and then she dissapeared into her closet.
I heard Hanna moving things around in the closet, until she emerged carrying a big book. She sat on the bed beside me, placing the ancient looking book on the bed. She blew the front cover, and dust swirled off into the air, dancing around. Hanna opened the book carefully, as it looked as old as my mother. She opened it to the first page, which had an elegant script in the centre. It read 'Hanna's memories'.
The first page was filled with pictures of a newborn baby Hanna in the hospital. As Hanna flipped the pages, it showed her growing up. Alongside pictures, there werw hand written captions, dates, places, ages. Not only where there pictures, but also things such as cinema tickets, bits of cotton from a certain teddy, stickers from our teachers when we were really young. There was also something there that I didn't expect. It was a little picture, on a piece of card. It was a picture of a love heart, with names in the middle.
Em and Han.
I remembered this, because I had drawn the heart, and Hanna had written inside it. I looked over at her, and she smiled at me.
"We were quite smart, for 6 year olds." I laughed, and she gave a small chuckle too. "Telling the future, and everything." I winked at her. She bit her lip, which I found extremely adorable.
Before I knew it, she had put the book to the side, and her hands were on my face as she pulled me to meet her. Our noses touched, and then she whispered something I didn't expect.
"I love you, Emily Fields."
