I throw myself into the house, the mouth-watering smell of pizza encasing me as I slip off my shoes and coat.
Hailey looks round to me, smiling as she holds out two pizza boxes in front of her. "I ordered pizza!" she chimes, moving past me into the lounge. "Hope you're hungry."
Hailey. You are a saint.
"Thank you," I groan, practically drooling over the food as I make myself comfy against a cushion. Taking a slice of pizza from the box, I feel a sense of cosiness as I peer through the patio doors at the miserable weather outside.
I like winter, but only when you're shielded from the cold.
"So," Hailey says mid-bite, inhaling her food. "How was your day?" As usual Hailey is watching some sort of reality dating programme, so she does her best to switch her view between me and the TV set.
"It was fine," I say, unable to think of anything except the fact that Grayson Cooper and I bumped into each other at the tube station. But I'll let that go for now. "The journey is a bit confusing, but I think I'll get used to it within a week or two."
Hailey rolls her eyes. "Of course you will Mia. You're in London now, and you have to get used to shit like that. Hell, I have to travel here, there and everywhere to get to all my lectures."
Hailey is always so confident; so adaptive to change, and I envy her for that.
"I know," I say. "It's just so different to home."
A comforting smile breaks from Hailey's lips, and a smidgen of cheese dribbles down them. "You'll be fine. I promise."
I smile, pushing myself further into the corner of the sofa to enjoy the pizza that is sure to kill off any remains of my hangover. Thankfully, it looks as though Hailey is feeling better now too.
"What else did you do?" Hailey asks, her green eyes filled with curiosity as she devours another slice.
I look to my food, playing about with the crust as I decide whether to tell Hailey about my encounter with the barman from Plasma. But I decide against it for now.
"Just sightseeing," I say, taking another bite. "I saw so many theatres though. Maybe we could go and see some shows together?"
A laugh falls from Hailey's lips, her head shaking. "Oh Mia, there is so much more fun to be had in London than theatre shows. But sure, if you really want to go then I'll go too."
I giggle; I know Hailey isn't one for theatre shows, bit I appreciate her efforts, nevertheless.
When I take my phone from my pocket, my nerves spike at the apprehension of Grayson's number appearing on the screen.
But there's nothing.
I want to hear from him. I want to continue our conversation—if you could even call it a conversation. But if I do hear from him, I wouldn't have a clue what to say. Something about him makes it impossible for me to even act like a normal human being around him.
