"are you sure moving back to north carolina is the greatest idea you've had, dad? we haven't been back there since i was in ninth grade. i'm going to start my senior year this year." i frowned.

"it'll be fine, spence. i have to go back for my job and won't it be nice for you to see your old friends?" my dad replied.

i shrugged my shoulders looking out the window. it was raining in los angeles. we were going to be driving for so long to up and move to a place that breaks my heart.

my dad doesn't know, but i pretty much cut off all ties with my friends from charlotte. i never expected to come back so i didn't really need them. they made me sad and i tried staying in touch, but they were always too busy to talk.

my friend selena is the only one who continued to reach out to me throughout the years. most people i know are trying to move out to los angeles but since i am still in high school my dad made me leave.

i was apart and still am apart of the "vault" house. a content creator house, but i had to leave all of my friends and head home.

while in the car, i had got a notification that my old middle school-freshman year boyfriend had decided to follow me on instagram. when i say "middle school" i mean fifth grade. four years i spent "dating" this boy.

then my mom passed and my dad couldn't stay in charlotte. everything reminded him of her, so he took on a project that was based in los angeles. he was designing one of our stores there but his boss wants him back in charlotte to design and build a bigger one of the original.

i decided to check out my ex's instagram and he also had a lot of following, which i knew already. i had stalked his instagram once when he showed up on my feed on tik tok last year, but i tried to disregard it as much as possible.

he got really attractive since freshman year. which makes sense. we haven't spoken since then pretty much. i was controlling the music in my dad's car and i noticed he had released music so i decided to play his songs.

"dad." i said.

"yes spencer." he replied.

"remember payton?" i asked.

"your old boyfriend that you weren't allowed to have and snuck behind my back and dated him anyway?" he laughed.

"yes that payton." i chuckled.

"well what about him?" he responded.

"he's a popular creator like me and he makes music. this is one of his songs." i told him.

we listened to the song and my dad looked at me.

"what if it's about you? 'it was better you and me'." my dad said.

"dad, no. we broke up freshman year. not to mention it was a middle school relationship." i frowned. "he started following me on instagram today."

"he did? after years of not talking?" he replied.

"we haven't spoken since he told me not to leave and that if i did leave, to forget about him forever. very over dramatic if you ask me." i laughed.

"you know payton was always a crazy kid. you guys did spend four years of your life 'loving' each other." my dad suggested.

"yeah well it doesn't mean anything." i shrugged.
