A dark haired woman paces the floor of her living room, praying that the police found her daughter. She was supposed to be here when she got off work. Her mother searched everywhere, called all her friends, but no one had seen her since she left school.
Loralie's phone begins to ring and she snatches it up before it can even ring out a third time. "Hello?!"
“Lora, have they found her yet?” She sighs at the sound of her husband's voice, who is currently away on business. "No and I'm getting really worried, David!"
“They'll find her, I promise.”
"But this isn't like before. She's had a few stalking boyfriends but never a kidnapping! What if something happens to her?"
“You can't think like that, Loralie. Just stay calm and pray she's unharmed. I'm getting on the first plane out. I'll be there as soon as I can.”
"Okay. Please hurry."
“I will. I love you.”
"I love you, too. See you soon."
“Yeah. Bye.” She hangs up the phone and returns to her pacing, tapping her phone against her hip. A few hours later a knocking came at her door. Loralie races through the living room and to the door, wrenching it open. On the other side stood two officers with her daughter in front of them.
"Melody! My baby girl!"
"Mom!" She wraps her arms around her mother and they immediately sink to the floor sobbing. Loralie cradles her daughter as if she were a baby again. "I'm so happy you're alright!" She kisses the top of Melody's head.
She looks up at the officers who are smiling. "Who did this?"
"Your next door neighbor Mike Addsion. He lured her out the house asking for her help and when she got to him he knocked her out, taking her to his cabin a few miles away. We have him in custody." Melody is still crying into her mother's sweater and Loralie strokes her hair. "How did you find her?"
"Kid across street was looking out the window when he knocked her out. Told his parents as soon as they got home from work and they called us. Sorry it took so long."
"I'm just glad you found her."
"Have a good night ma'am." She nods and watches them go. She helps Melody stand up. "You injured?" She shakes her head and Loralie tucks strands of her black hair behind her ear. "Did he—"
"No. H-he tried to but he didn't." Loralie stares at her before nodding slowly. "Alright, let's get you into the water okay it'll help." Melody nods and allows her mom to lead her up the stairs. She opens a door and they enter the bathroom. Melody looks at the crystal shower and then to the jacuzzi-esque tub that is almost constantly full of water.
Melody leans against it and turns to her mother. "I'll take it from here."
"Okay, I'll be right down the hall okay?" She nods and Loralie leaves her to soak in peace. Melody pulls off her clothes and slips into the heated water. She eventually settles on the bottom, the water coming up to her chin. She looks down at the bruises on her ankles and wrists from where she was tied.
