A gentle breeze blew outside as storm clouds began to peak over the trees just outside the classroom. Gumball was lazily clicking his pen as his gaze dropped to the blacktop below. The courtyard was vacant. Lonely basketball hoops awaited recess but only the stray leaves kept them company for the moment. To any other town in the universe, a calm and quiet day like this would be normal.

Not for the town of Elmore though. This town was anything but normal, something crazy always seemed to be happening. Even though this new change of pace was anything but normal for Elmore the characters found it serene. All the residents accepted the silence with open arms, except one, Gumball.

Anyone else would wish for a moment of silence. A moment to settle down from the hustle of day to day life. Not this character though, no. In fact, he despised the silence and quiet calm. It unnerved him to a degree. To him a normal day would consist of bus heists and explosions. They were desirable for a person as reckless as him.

Of course, during the adventures there was never any real danger. The adventures were never life threatening and the next day his wounds would heal like they were never there. He had become accustomed to this way of life. It was how things were since he was born. Endless adventures would await him each day and he would wreak havoc throughout the town along the way. The effects of the damage never stayed though. They would disappear too, like the bruises he got. The next day it would be like the previous events had never happened. A new adventure would begin, and the cycle repeated itself. It's all he had ever known.

"Watterson! Stop clicking that wretched pen already before I give you another week's detention," Miss Simian growled out in a tone that was much too similar to the sound of gravel gritting against car tires. She fixed her most hateful glare at him from her corner of the room, the scowl lines of her face making her look like an angry totem. She probably would make a good totem, being a literal ape and all, and having that same menacing look plastered onto her face every day.

     "Sorry," Gumball gritted out begrudgingly.

Gumball so happened to be serving detention because he had annoyed everyone in the school with his antics. He had grown restless in his search for adventure and had antagonized all his classmates. Even intentionally spreading lies to stir up drama, to just make something, anything, interesting happen, but to no avail. The only outcome was a seat in detention. This was probably the most boring part of his day today, which is saying something. He was stuck in here when he could be out there seeking his missing adventures. It was like the universe was against him.

Unconsciously he had begun to click his pen again as his mind wandered. He wasn't even aware of it until Miss Simian stood up abruptly, her chair screeching loudly across the tile floor. Gumball stiffened, fearing another boring detention as punishment.

"Another week's detention," Miss Simian said.

     "-but," Gumball tried to say.

"Two weeks detention," she interupted. That shut Gumball up for the rest of his detainment.

He managed to survive the rest of his prison sentence. When he was walking out of the classroom Miss Simian quipped saying that she looked forward to seeing him for detention tomorrow. He didn't say anything to the staring students in the halls as he made his way to the front entrance of the school.

It was late in the afternoon now. His mother had to be home by now and his family was definately waiting for him. Gumball sat down on the front steps of the school. The storm was now upon the town, the clouds hovering ominously above. The wind rustled his fur as he sulked. Gumball could've chosen to watch the cheerleaders practice today; however, Penny wasn't there, and he didn't feel much like watching the other girls cheer, only her. She was the only reason he attended games anyway.
