Christmas In New York City- A One Direction Fan Fiction
"Well, it's another bright and early day, Napolean." I tapped on my pet gold fish's bowl, yawning and stretching my arms above my head. He blew out a couple bubbles in response, it's face blank and bored. "Eh, good enough." I shrugged as I pulled my sweater back over my shoulder in place. I walked over to my condominium's window to watch the morning snow twinkle to the ground. Being on the 17th floor gave me a fantastic view of the New York City sky line. Exhaling slowly, I smiled a sleepy grin before glancing at my flip clock. Time to get ready for work...
I'm Stella. 21. Living in New York as a magazine editor for Vogue. Well, striving to be a magazine editor for Vogue. I'm not quite there yet. You see, I'm an intern for one of the biggest bosses at the Conde Nast building for Vogue in NYC. The job's a hand full, but I'm as determined as ever to succeed and build up my seniority to hopefully become an editor like her. Oh, her name is Anna Wintour and if you're anything like me and obsessed with fashion, then you've most likely heard her name. I grew up in Putnam County, about 45 minutes from New York. It was an incredibly small town, where everybody knew each other. My father had always found that comforting, but I found it suffocating. My mother left my father when I was 6. She supposedly fled to NY because she wanted to do "more with her life" as my father used to say. She promised she'd be back in a couple months, she just needed some time to herself. Well, a couple months passed... then a couple more and a couple more. It had been 2 years without any calls, letters or e-mails and by that time, my father had completely given up on here and so did I. My mother loved me very much, I knew that. I guess she had just found something in New York, something... better. Nonetheless, as soon as I had graduated from a shitty high school with a population of close to nothing, I told my Dad I needed to go to New York. Not to find my Mom, I was over that. She'd obviously moved on, so I had to too. He was so scared. He thought I would just be another repeat of his wife, but I knew I wouldn't be. I just had to get out and see the rest of the world. With all my credits, I was actually getting somehere, unlike the other kids in town. He didn't say no, but he didn't exactly say yes. But without further adue, he helped me prepare to move here, find a place and settle in (I'd already been accepted as in intern at Conde Nast back in April).
The first week I got here was hectic. I didn't know how to hail a cab or walk fast enough on the streets. But I quickly learned. Since the closet thing to a mall in Putnam County was a small "Everything-Mart", I had to make all my clothing out of next-to-nothings. But New York stores, oh man, were they different! Thank God Mom left some extra money for me before she left because I sure well needed it. Expensive, gorgeous, expensive fashionable, expensive clothes were all I seemed to need to survive.
So here I am today, throwing on my black pencil skirt, teal collared blouse with accessories, practically tripping over myself as I pressed the elevator button. DING, the door opened slowly. I stepped in, expecting to be alone when I heard a voice as smooth as anything and sweet as everything else.
"Lobby?" he said simply, before giving me a glance over his shoulder. He stared at me. I hesistated for a moment or two before nodding quickly. He was really good looking. His soft, light brown hair was tousled slightly as he ran a hand through it. "Alright." He added, pushing the button to close the door. I watched his muscular arm move to his side and I noticed his cheek turn slightly as if to look towards me. But before I could say a word, the elevator opened with a ding, reminding me to get off to work. So, I stepped quickly out and made my way to the busy New York street. Besides, I thought as I hurried down the crowded side walk. Guys were never particularly interested in me. Not that it mattered, for I was a strong, successful women who was going places! And nothing could stop me, even-
"Um, I think you dropped this!"
I looked back to see the man from the elevator, holding out his hand, a penny in his palm. I chuckled out loud before taking a step towards him. "Really?" I quizzed him, raising my brow. "Or is that just a pick-up line?"
