A loud, heaving sigh sounded from the 4'10" girl named Kasey as she stuffed her hands into her pockets and continued her trek back home. She hadn't necessarily gotten to see them play, but she had heard the performance of one her favorite bands from outside of the venue. She guessed it would be the closest she would get for a while, so it was something; she had planned on staying outside and waiting to see if she could meet the band, but the weather had gotten below freezing, and all she wore for protection against the bitter cold was a light jacket and her brother's beanie. It wasn't doing much to keep her warm, and despite her determination to brace herself against the freezing temperatures, she had finally given in and decided to walk home. It was, after all, Ohio, one of the coldest states in the US during wintertime.
Oh well, She thought as she held her head near her chest in an attempt to keep as warm as possible. It had already begun to snow, something the weatherman actually got right for once. At least I sort of got to hear them, right? I mean.. That's better than nothing, and who knows, maybe I'll run into one of them somehow. That thought made her giggle. It was such a long shot idea in the end, and she knew this, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something strangely miraculous was going to happen to her tonight. She hoped it would.. It was about time something good would happen to her. It felt like no matter where she went or what she did in life, everything would always end up going the complete opposite direction as opposed to how it was planned.
The snow had begun to fall even heavier now, making it somewhat hard for the tiny girl to see more than ten feet in front of or behind her. That made her slightly paranoid. Men in this town weren't too shy about expressing the fact that they wanted something, even though she was only fourteen years old. At least I'm sorta strong for being so tiny.. She thought as she reached the street corner, now beginning to violently shiver from the unbelievably cold wind. This was the coldest it had been in several years. She poked the crosswalk button, shuddering as she felt the cold metal of the button graze her already chilled fingertips.
"Hey!" She heard a man call behind her, but she simply folded her arms against her chest and focused in front of her. Her mother had always taught her that if you don't acknowledge them, they'll go away eventually; and God, did she hope that was true. She was cold, alone and farther from her house than she had realized at first. "Hey, you!" She heard again, much closer this time; she bit her lip, keeping her vision focused ahead with all her might. The voice sounded so familiar.
Suddenly, there was a hand on her trembling shoulder, and with a loud yelp, she whirled around and flung her arms up in defense; but there was no need. She immediately recognized who he was, and with a start, she realized she had accidentally smacked him in the face, as he was cradling his cheek. He was laughing, though, almost as if the smack had amused him more than it had actually injured him.
"Jeez, what a greeting.." It was Chad Gray from Hellyeah, the band she had been listening to from outside of the venue. Her eyes grew wide at the sight of him standing before her, and she suddenly realized he was almost a foot and a half taller than she was. Why am I so short?! She thought as she could only stare up at him. "You okay? I kinda noticed you hanging outside the venue, but I.. I wasn't sure if you were there for the show or if you were just lost." He chuckled, but Kasey was frozen in place. It was almost like some unseen force had a tight grip on not only her voice box, but her legs and arms. She wanted to hug him, but her entire body seemed to be made of lead.
"C-Chad!" She finally squeaked, and he raised an eyebrow, laughing at her shy demeanor almost as though he found it cute. He nodded, and her mouth dropped open as she gazed over his features. His bright, pastel blue eyes reflected the snow that now collected on the roads and sidewalks, his red and black hair styled in a mohawk gave a perfect contrast to the stark white powder that dusted everything around him, and his bright, wide smile made her weak in the knees. His pictures did not do him justice in the least bit.
