Amara's POV
Quiet sounds vibrated around me, helping me find my way back to reality. I felt myself float back into my body, causing me to jolt awake. My dark eyes snapped open as I gasped. I was in a room that wasn't my own, with Todoroki and Uncle Shouta sitting beside my bed.
"You're awake," Uncle Shouta stated the obvious. I glanced at him, and my heart froze. He looked like a mummy, wrapped in bandages from head to toe, his face completely obscured, and both arms in slings. I released a shaky breath.
"Are you okay?" I asked him.
"Of course I am. I was more worried about you," he replied. I raised a dark eyebrow at him.
"Why would you be worried about me? And Todoroki, why are you here?" I questioned the two men, sensing tension in the air.
"You lost control of yourself," my uncle finally replied. Todoroki averted his gaze to the floor. "You destroyed the Nomu and then you almost destroyed All Might." My stomach churned as I slumped forward, tears threatening to spill from my eyes.
"Did I hurt anyone?" My voice was shaky as I buried my face in my hands.
"Thankfully, you didn't. Jirou sent a sound blast at you, and it knocked you unconscious," he told me. "There was a slight problem when you reverted to your human form, though..." He trailed off. I thought for a moment, then it hit me like a slap in the face. My palms began to sweat. I looked at Todoroki, whose face had already turned a deep pink as he furrowed his brows at the ground.
"Oh no... I was naked in front of everyone?" I cried. My uncle nodded, and I felt like I would die from embarrassment. "So why are you here?" I nervously asked Todoroki.
"You were falling to your death, so I saved you. I also carried you to the medics, and they brought you here," he said in a monotone, still not looking at me.
I felt a whirlwind of emotions, my thoughts a chaotic mess. "Thank you," I managed to say.
"Anyway, it's time we went back to class," Uncle Shouta said.
"You're going back to work looking like a mummy?" I questioned. "You should probably rest."
"I'll be fine. Get dressed and come to class now. Todoroki, let's go," he commanded before he and Todoroki left the room, closing the door behind them.
This is why I need a costume, so I don't lose my clothes every time I use my quirk, I thought. A sigh escaped my lips as I slid my legs out from under the white blankets of the bed. My feet met the cold tiles, and I pushed myself up with my arms. I noticed a uniform neatly folded on the bedside table. Shouta probably had it brought from home. A small smile flickered onto my face but quickly faded when I thought about all the destruction I could have caused. I made a mental note to thank All Might and apologize the next time I saw him.
It didn't take me long to get dressed, and I quickly made my way back to class. I pushed the door open and walked inside. Silence loomed as everyone's eyes narrowed at me. Were they scared of me? I swallowed the lump in my throat and folded my arms over my chest, tiptoeing back to my desk.
"Now that Amara has finally arrived, we can talk about UA's sports festival," my uncle mumbled from the front of the classroom. The class erupted in excitement, momentarily forgetting their fear of me. I was thankful. I sat down and turned to face Todoroki.
"Why do I get the feeling that everyone hates me?" I asked him. He frowned in thought before answering.
"I think they're just scared after what they saw," he replied, his eyes glued to the front of the room. "To be honest, it was quite horrific, so I understand where they're coming from. But I know you didn't mean to scare them. I can imagine your quirk is hard to control." His response surprised me; I didn't expect him to be so understanding.
"The sports festival will be in a week, so you'll have the week off to train for it. That is all, class dismissed," Shouta said in a bored tone. A sigh escaped my lips. It made me uncomfortable that the festival was so close to the villain attack. I shrugged it off as I stood up from my seat.
"Amara?" I heard Todoroki speak.
"Yes?"
"Can we exchange phone numbers? It's okay if you don't want to," he mumbled nervously. My eyebrows knitted together as I watched him nervously rub the back of his neck.
"No," I spat. He wilted in his seat like a dying flower. With a clenched fist, I playfully punched his shoulder, and he sprang back to life. "I'm just messing with you. Sure, let me write it down for you." I laughed, grabbing one of the pens from his desk and messily writing my phone number on his forearm. His bi-colored eyes felt warm when they looked at me. I flashed him a smile before walking out of the class.
"Amara shouldn't be allowed to enter the sports festival," I heard one of my classmates say.
"Yeah, she might go on another rampage, and someone will end up dead."
Anger bubbled under my skin, but I took a deep breath to calm myself.
"Look, I'm sorry if I scared anyone. I didn't mean to lose control like that. 99% of the time, I have full control," I enunciated in an annoyed tone, creating an awkward tension. "I saved your lives anyway. Idiots."
"That may be true, but you also put us in danger. How can you be trusted?" Iida questioned. I glared at him, and he averted his gaze.
"I don't care if you trust me or not. But I really am sorry you had to witness that," I said sternly, feeling myself relax. "Obviously, if I could go back and change it, I would." Everyone seemed lost in their thoughts. A sigh escaped my lips as I continued to leave the classroom.
I opened the heavy glass door and entered the school gym. I placed my gym bag in one of the lockers, unzipped it, and grabbed my water, phone, towel, and airpods. I carried my things into the gym, noticing Bakugo already training. He was on a bench, pushing a barbell up in a bench press. I eyed his shaky arms suspiciously, and before I knew it, he dropped the barbell onto his neck and began to choke. I rushed toward him, hardening my arms to increase my strength. I grabbed the barbell off him, and he sent me an angry glare.
"GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME," he screamed, fire in his eyes. I pouted but decided to listen to him.
"Okay," I said, dropping the barbell back onto him. He started choking again. A vein popped in his forehead as he glared at me.
"Help... me..." he managed to say before I pulled the barbell off him again. I placed it back on the rack and waited for him to catch his breath.
"Why did you do that?" he asked in a normal voice, panting heavily as he rubbed his sore throat.
"You told me to," I chided. "Why were you doing such a heavy weight all by yourself?" I pried.
"I was trying to get stronger for the festival. How is it that you are so strong?" he panted, his red eyes meeting mine.
"Without my quirk, I am weak. That's why I come here—to train my natural body," I replied with a smile.
"I see," he sat up. "Thank you for helping me," he said, much to my surprise.
"Wow, who knew you could be so calm and mature?" I jested.
"SHUT UP AND GO AWAY," he yelled angrily, switching from calm to angry in less than a second.
"Ah, that's the Bakugo we all know and love," I said sarcastically. "Don't kill yourself doing heavy weight," I teased, watching his face twist in anger.
