Draco. The summer before sixth year.

This is not what I wanted. My life plans were as follows since 1st year, get sorted into slytherin, excel in my studies, make my father proud in the minuscule way I can, then reluctantly become a death eater, and marry some strange girl, then die in some tragic way my children will cry about. Never in my life did any of my plans include a very big lifechanging secret like being a different species. My father and my poor mother decided the best time to tell me I was a veela was the day summer started to which I responded with a horrified face and a lot of denial. After this earthquake I received from my less-than-loving parents I spent the days up until my birthday locked in the library reading every goddamn piece of literature I could on every encounter, every study, every mention of veelas and their culture. Most of it was in Bulgarian since apparently that's where they originate, the more I read the more calm I became. I Draco Lucius Malfoy would not let being a veela effect me at all, I am fully in control of MY life and not even this can shake my resolution. Then on my 16th birthday, June 5th, it happened, slowly. Throughout the day I noticed my skin was brighter, paler even, then later I caught my reflection my eyes were brighter with a light blue tint and my hair was less yellow blond and more fair white.
"Okay I can work with this."
"Work with what darling." my mother slipped into the room gracefully.
"Just taking in my new...appearance."
"Oh my dear, you are the same lovely boy you've always been."
"Mother may I ask you something?"
She hesitated clasping her hands together.
"Of course Draco."
"Why arent you a veela?"
Her lips pursed briefly.
"It doesn't come from my side dear, it comes from your fathers. His great, great, great, grandmother was the last veela in his family before the gene went dormant. For some reason yours was not."
I stood silently playing her words over and over in my head. Me, the first in generations to present as a veela.
"Are you alright love?"
I smiled gently.
"Yes mother, thank you. I'm off to collect some supplies for school"
I gave her a swift kiss on the cheek and quickly exited the room. The rest of the summer went by quite quickly, I spent my free time in all areas of the manor reading up on veela information or finishing up summer homework. Not much to do when you avoid your father whisper conversations with your mother, and occasionally send letters to blaise and pansy. The day before I was set to go to the train station for Hogwarts my father stopped me on my way to my room.
"Draco."
"Father."
He pushed a small vial of green liquid into my hand.
"It was the last of my great, great, great, grandmothers suppressant. Wouldn't want you whoring around with every drooling boy who comes your way."
I tightened my jaw.
"I have far more dignity than you give me credit for."
He gave a small chuckle.
"A veela with dignity is something I would very much like to see. You will take the suppressant Draco. One drop every day. I will have more made and send it to you."
I pushed passed him and up the stairs to my room. The nerve of him. After tomorrow I wouldn't have to see him for a whole year and that lightened my spirits. I suppose I had a hold on being a veela. This year will be easy.

Harry. The summer before sixth year.

This year will not be easy. I spent most of my summer dodging hits and dodging home. Finishing summer homework at night and cleaning things I cleaned the day before over and over again. At this point my brain was on autopilot while I dusted every shelve and in my mind I recite the recipe for a potion that records everything you read while you study so you can play it back later when you drink it again. Magic truly was a wonderful thing. Ron and Hermione wanted me to come to the burrow near the end of the summer but I told them it wasn't likely and that I would love to see them. Dumbledore's army was working hard due to Voldemorts persistent attacks on both muggles and wizards. I hoped they all stayed safe. Other than the usual nothing strange had happened to me which in itself was strange. Although there was that one day, what was it? Oh yeah, june 5th. June 5th I had been up in my room doing my charms homework when something strange happened at exactly 12AM, I felt a shiver out of nowhere then an almost electrifying buzz of euphoria. Then just as quick as it came it was just...gone. I hadn't thought anything of it since then. Now close to 2 weeks before school I had to get school supplies. I quickly got up and threw on a hoodie and baggy jeans. I looked up at my small clock on the wall to see it was 5AM, one hour before Vernon got up for work and Petunia for breakfast. I slipped down the stairs making extra careful steps around the creaky spots and light, quick steps to the door. The door opened with a forceful but not loud pull. I walked out feeling a rush of relief when I turned the corner and started walking towards a main road. I eventually caught a taxi to the meeting place with the weasleys. I walked to small antiques store that moonlights as a wizard meet up place. When I first walked in molly ran right up and pulled me into a tight hug.
"Oh Harry dear! We all missed you so much."
"I missed you all more than I can say Mrs. Weasley."
Ron, Ginny, Fred, and George walked over with Arthur in tow.
"Harry! How've you been mate?"
Molly released me at the sound of Ron's voice. Ron then pulled me into an equally crushing hug but let me go much quicker.
"I'm much better now." The rest of the weasleys asked me about my summer, and told me all about the latest in wizarding sports. I just enjoyed being apart of this happy, warm family again. We flooded ourselves to diagon alley and ran from shop to shop bantering over brands and prices. Molly was arguing with the tailor fixing Ginny's robes and Arthur was pulling Fred and George out of a small shop that sells fireworks that moved. Ron and I were picking up this years new books. He stopped at a food cart and I decide to stop by Ollivanders. I popped in and immediately smelled that old wood and dust scents.
"Ah, so Harry Potter has come to visit."
Ollivander popped out from behind one of his many rows of wands.
"Just stopped by to say hello Mr. Olivander."
"Hmm."
He moved closer to me and inspected me.
"You've grown taller my boy, and there is something else about you I cannot place."
"Something bad?"
He peered at me curiously.
"Not bad per say, but definitely different. I feel something big will change in your life very soon."
"I do hope it's a good change then."
"Indeed."
I said my goodbyes and left the shop. I did enjoy having conversations with him but he always is a bit cryptic. When we were done shopping I said my goodbyes and on my walk home I said to myself,
"This will be a strange year."
