I raise my fist and hold my breath; the room is just down this corridor, yet there is a cross intersection of halls stopping us from pursuing. The hallway to my left has a creature, it's pungent odour assaults my nostrils causing my stomach to churn in dismay, the occasional growl rumbles through the building; low and guttural. Those doors can be locked on the inside, if I distract it for a couple of seconds Zac can wheel Brent to safety.

Hopefully.

I mutter beneath my breath the instructions to the son of Wrath, my heart racing as I realize what I'm about to do. On the count of three I walk out into the open and like I trained, I snap my palms and push the pressure through my chest, down my arms and out of my hands. The creature flies backwards, back crashing into the window causing it to crack.

Scarlet wheels Amber down the hallway and swings his friend to the side, reaching for the door to push it- only it's stuck. He curses and slams the door with his fist, "Hey! Open the fucking door!"

The creature lashes it's arms out, the tendrils coiling and strengthening as it swings high and low; I duck. It's other hand hits me in the side and instantly tries to wrap around me. I grunt and close my eyes, forcing myself to be calm as I push the pressure through my body and allow it to pulse outwards. The inky black flies off of me in individual ropes of ink, before reforming into a solid fist flying towards my face. I drop to the floor and roll out of the way as it slams onto the ground, cracking the checkerboard marble design.

"Fucking cowards! Let us in!"

I roll again as the tall monster begins to stagger my way with heavy steps. These things are slow however they make up for it with their ability. It's tendrils sharpen at the tips and pierce downwards, my wings push me out of the way, propelling me to to the centre of the intersection.

I infuse each parry with a piece of pressure, deflecting each of it's strikes with my own. It's relentless, however I notice it's tendrils slowly begin to for around me, distracting me with it's attacks and try to overwhelm me. I begin to tire, forcing myself to carry on as my muscles scream and my breath become short pants.

I hear a mighty cry of ambush from my right; Zac and a couple other students carrying sharp weapons run at the monster and instantly begin attacking. They circle at and lob off it's tendrils, cutting down on it's figure hence weakening it. It releases sharp cries and quickly begins flinging it's appendages around in a sorry attempt of offence, only it's quickly thinned out. Staggering backwards, it falls over as it's only left with it's torso, the ink spasming with agony. Zac puts the thing out of it's misery.

"What the fuck," whispers one of the young kids, an ebony girl with box-braids and a purple tie. "Th-that thing-"

"Yeah," I interrupt. "That thing is killing our students. There are more of them, hence why we need to go back inside and barricade the doors."

"You're Olivia Green," says a younger boy with almond shaped brown eyes and neat black hair, a red tie loosely hung around his neck. "You're the Emperor's daughter."

I force myself up and sag slightly, however Zac's hand instantly supports me; I don't object. I feel drained, like my battery is almost entirely out and I could sleep for a week. Scarlet guides me to the room where an entire class of young students are sat in the corner, huddling and terrified. Brent is with them, calming them down with a level head.

I've noticed a change within him. Ever since he's been in a wheelchair, he's not taken things for granted and is not as cocky as he usually is. I could almost say he's happier, only it's easy to fake a smile. He's certainly more caring, with that comes his outlook on life which seems outright positive and somewhat tranquil. Almost like he knows a secret that causes him to be so levelheaded.

"Mr Smith went out to find out what the ruckus was about," comes a young envy demon, her dark brown hair tied in two plaits complimenting her light brown skin and sparkling brown eyes. "Only he never came back, we heard screams so we barricaded the door. Is everyone okay out there?"

"No," I reply truthfully, Brent casts me an exasperated look. No point feigning the truth, "People are dying. In fact, I gather quite a few are dead."

Some gasp and a lot of them murmur, some begin to softly weep whilst others just stare off into space, shock chilling their bones.

"However," I continue and a lot of them look at me with hope. Hope? Of course, I'm the Emperor's daughter. Future leader that will guide them to sanctuary- or so they gather. Such a heavy responsibility on my shoulders that in my weakened state I'm not sure I can accomplish. Yet it can't help but try. "We are in the optimal position right now. Nothing can get through those doors however we have weapons in case. Use ones with sharp edges. What year group are you in?"

"Year nine," Brent responds. "They've had training for just over two years now."

"Good," I respond. "We might need to put it to good use. However let's rest now and see if anyone will come for us, wait until the morning so we have our strength."

The kids nod as they begin to pull the mats together, huddling with weapons on the sides to grab just in case. We sit closer to the door, my head resting on Zac's shoulder as my fatigue takes a toll on my body. Brent is quietly muttering ideas to us about our approach tomorrow, however I'm hardly concentrating- my mind is focused on Bender.

From the thought alone my heart aches and my throat hurts from not crying. I can't, not in front of so many people. Showing signs of weakness to the weak will only hinder their precious hope. After shutting the blinds from the outside world and the hours roll slowly by, people begin falling asleep. I try and stay awake, however when Zac throws his blazer on top of me as a makeshift blanker, the mix of warmth and tiredness gets to me and I fall asleep leaning against the son of Wrath.
