"It's only in darkness that I am able to find the light."

Two Weeks Earlier

"Get Up!"

Kimberly Daughtry screamed as she stood over her very own body and watched the paramedics try and breathe air into her damn near broken body. She watched the blonde haired, and pale skinned, doctor start chest compressions as in a desperate need to bring her back to the land of the living.

"Kim, get up!"

She couldn't get up. As hard as she tried, she just could not force herself to breathe again, to let them know that she was still there.

Alive.

"Dr. Cullen, she's - she's gone." A nurse announced. "You have to call it."

Dr. Cullen heard the nurse, but he didn't stop. He couldn't because even though the monitors couldn't catch it, Kimberly Daughtry still had a heartbeat. Yes, it was very slow and to slow to catch, but due to his, condition, Dr. Cullen could hear her heart still beating.

Kimberly watched the doctor continue chest compressions and mouth to mouth for the next few minutes before the monitor beeped.

"Oh my god." Gasped that same nurse.

"She's...alive. How is that possible?" Questioned another doctor.

"Find me a room!" Dr. Cullen called out.

...

Kim, or at least her out of body self, sat back against the leather and sighed. She watched as Dr. Cullen checked her human body's vitals, again, for the umpteenth time today. Everyday this past week he has checked in on her unmoving body every chance he could get. He would not only check her vitals, but he would talk to her, read to her, and even give her, her daily wash. It wasn't until then that she realized that Dr. Cullen was no normal doctor.

He was a vampire.

She was amazed when she saw him use his inhumanly fast ability to give her, her daily wash. She always thought she was alone in the world, that she was the only very different person alive, but he was proof that she wasn't. So, for almost a week now she has just been watching him, learning as much as she can about him, and his family, before she would attempt address him.

She sighed.

"I really need to wake up." She said.

In a blink of an eye, Dr. Carlisle Cullen was facing her direction and she would swear that he was looking directly at her.

Again, she sighed.

"If only you could see me, doc."

"I - I can see you." He replied.

Kim gasped and jumped to her feet. "Did you just answer me?"

Carlisle nodded.

"Yes, I did."

"And you.can see me?" Kim asked.

Again, Carlisle nodded.

"Yes."

Kim burst into a fit of joyous dancing and singing. Finally, he could see her.

"How are you standing in front of me right now when you're also lying in this bed?" Carlisle asked.

Kim took a big breath, a few of them, to calm herself before she provided Carlisle with all of her attention.

"I'm not dead, but I'm not alive, either. I'm stuck in-between worlds right now." She stated softly.

"How is that possible?"

"I'm a witch, Dr. Carlisle Cull en. That's how." She chuckled softly. "Though you should be the last person to be so shocked seeing as you and your entire family are vampires."

"What -"

Kim held up a hand to stop him. "Before you go on to deny it, I've been stuck in-between worlds for about two weeks now. I've seen a lot in that length of time."

Carlisle's eyes widened slightly before they went back to normal. "Can I trust that you won't speak of this to anyone?"

Kim opened her arms and spun around. "In case you've forgotten, Dr. Cullen, I'm not exactly in a position to tell anyone anything."

Carlisle nodded.

"Right. My apologies."

"Don't worry about it."

"If you don't mind my asking, what are you exactly? I know that you say that you're a witch, but I get the feeling that there is more to it." He asked.

Kim walked over to her unmoving body and reached down and touched her hand. "I, Dr. Cullen, am half witch and half siren."

"That's - incredible." He moved to stand opposite of her. "I've always had my suspicion that there was more out there. You're living proof of that."

Kim turned her attention from her still hand to his slightly dark eyes. "Living proof? Not so much."

"Do you know how you ended up like this?" He asked as he looked down at her human form.

"I was attacked by another vampire, now that I think about it. Three of them to be exact. A red head, a blond and a man with long locs." She stated as she recalled her attackers. "I tried to fight them off, I was almost successful, but the blond haired one attacked me from behind as I was fighting off the red head and the one with the locs."

"Oh my - I didn't see any bite marks on you." He stated.

"I'm not sure why that is, but they definitely didn't leave without quenching their thirst."

"That would explain why your heart continued to stop and how you'd lost a little over half of your body's blood." He replied. "I had to use seven pints of blood after I got your heart beating clearly again."

"I guess they were really thirsty." She spat softly. "Anyway, I guess all of the trauma, and the venom, caused me to slip into a coma. I don't know. I just know that I need to wake up already. It's been two weeks."

"Your body went through a lot, Kim. It, and your mind, needs time."

"How much time? I have a life to get back to."

"I can't say for sure." He said softly. "Do you have any friends and or family that we can call for you? You don't have any emergency contact listed."

Kim shook her head.

"No. It's, uh, just me."
