Ch.7: Detention

The next day...

The school day dragged on as if it was never going to end. Sabrina couldn't wait to get to Mrs.Branch's biology class. Not only because it was the last class of the day, but also because she would get to see her new friend Peter.

Sabrina wasn't the best at making friends. It wasn't that she wasn't a like-able person, it was more that she didn't care for the company. She would rather be alone. She always left it to Daphne to deal with people.

Sigh. I miss Daphne, Sabrina thought. Maybe I should write her sometime? I hope boarding school is treating her well.

Those thoughts were interrupted by the loud clang of the school bell. Sabrina's personal hell was almost over with. Now all she had to do was survive Mrs.Branch's class...Luckily she now had Peter, the only good thing Sabrina had gotten out of school.

"You're late!" Mrs.Branch yelled, poking her head over the book she was reading with a sneer.

"You don't look busy." Sabrina said pointedly, not even giving Mrs.Branch a glance as she continued the walk to her seat. Sabrina looked around at her fellow students who were all either sleeping, yawning, or staring off into space."Doesn't seem like I missed much." Sabrina laughed to herself as she sat down in her seat and saw Mrs.Branch's face turn an unhealthy shade of purple.

Mrs.Branch closed her book with a loud snap. "I've had about enough of your attitude young lady. I'll see you in detention after class." She didn't even try to hide the smirk on her face. "Now that we've dealt with that, where were we?"

Sabrina rolled her eyes and popped a piece of bubblegum in her mouth. She began popping bubbles, very, very loudly. She was met with Mrs.Branch's icy stare, but Sabrina answered back with yet another *pop*

Peter, who had been observing the heated exchange, looked over at Sabrina with a cheeky grin."So you got yourself detention huh?"

Sabrina rolled her eyes. "That woman has had it out for me since day one, I'm surprised I haven't gotten detention sooner. Too bad I'll be at school even longer than normal. And I have to be alone with that woman...who knows what she'll do to me."

Peter looked at her with a mischievous glint in his eyes. Sabrina cocked an eyebrow at him but he just grinned at her and looked away. She decided to shrug it off and at least pretend to pay attention as to not get into even deeper trouble.

As the lecture was nearing its end, Sabrina kept glancing nervously at the clock. She didn't know how she was going to tell Mr.Canis about why she needed to be picked up much later. Maybe she would lie and say she joined an after school club or something...

Suddenly, Sabrina's anxious thoughts were interrupted by Peter standing up and waltzing up to the front of the room where Mrs.Branch was standing. He flung himself into her chair and crudely put his shoes up on her desk.

"PETER!! What do you think you're doing young man? Go back to your seat at once!" Mrs.Branch screeched, crossing her arms and aggressively tapping her heeled foot on the hard floor.

Peter glanced at the board, and then looked Mrs.Branch up and down and said with a wink, "But I get a much better view from up here don't you think 'teach'?"

The entire class bursted out laughing, including Sabrina who practically choked on air as she watched Mrs.Branch's face go from a deep red to a pale white within a matter of seconds.

Mrs.Branch who was so embarrassed that she, for once, did not instantly respond with a snarky comment, but rather stood there blubbering for at least five seconds. When she was finally able to collect herself she grabbed Peter by the collar and yanked him out of her chair.

"That is extremely inappropriate behavior and I WILL be seeing you after class in detention. Back to your own seat NOW and DON'T touch my things AGAIN." Mrs.Branch looked so frustrated that the vein in her forehead was visibly protruding.

Peter walked back with his hands up in mock defense and slid back into his chair. Mrs.Branch jumped back into the dull contents of her lecture in order to move past the ordeal for the last few minutes of class.

"I guess you won't be alone in detention after all," Peter said with a cheeky grin towards Sabrina as they shared a look of mutual respect.
