When I woke up, I saw a sky full of clouds. Strange, I thought. Why am I in the sky? And why is it so COLD?
"Where am I?" I shivered. I couldn't understand why I was shivering in shorts and a T-shirt. I looked around me.
All I could see were clouds....and below me was the ocean.
The ocean?
It was big, vast, and blue. It was so beautiful that I wanted to jump in it right away. But then I noticed something.
Icebergs. No wonder I was so cold. Wait....icebergs? The ocean? Where was I? And why is there a boat on the water? The boat was colossal. It had an ominous presence to it, and somehow I got nervous. It felt like it was gonna stab me if I got too close. It seemed to get closer.....and closer.......and closer.
That's when I realized I was falling.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" I screamed.
This is how I'm going to die, I thought. I'm gonna be like freakin' Dumbledore and fall to my death. Hooray. Then.....
SPLASH!
I was underwater. And I had never felt so cold in my entire life. Oh great, I'm gonna drown. Or freeze to death, either one.
That's when I saw him.
It was a boy, about twelve years old. He was sinking. It was blurry underwater, so I couldn't see him very well. I dove down as fast as I could.
The boy opened his eyes and looked straight at me. They were a bright blue. Not only that, but they were glowing. I knew only one person whose eyes glowed bright blue.
Holy crap. Holy crap. Holy crap.
It was Aang. The Avatar. I couldn't believe it. The old lady was wrong; this necklace didn't give you bad luck; it gave you bad dreams.
Aang grabbed my hand tight, and before I knew what was happening, he went into his Avatar state. Water began swirling around us, and I felt like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. I was definitely not in Kansas anymore, Toto. Then I felt something.
It was my necklace. And it was glowing. Not only had my necklace glowed but it also changed. Then I felt like I was struck by lightning. A flash of blue light, then everything went black again.
"Hello......" a familiar voice whispered. "Are you awake?"
My eyes opened to see Aang staring at me. I really was in Avatar! And I wasn't dreaming!
"Yeah," I answered. "What happened?"
"SHHH!" Aang shushed me. "Be quiet! They might hear us!"
He looked around, then whispered again, "What's your name?"
"Katel——" Then I stopped myself. If I was in the world of Avatar, I was going to have to change my name to fit their style.
"Kai Lin," I lied. "My name is Kai Lin."
"I'm Aang," the Avatar grinned. "I'm an Airbender....and a Waterbender too, I guess. What bender are you?"
"Ummm......" I thought. It was gonna be hard to lie to this little cutie. But then———
"Aaah......aaaah.....ah-CHOO!" I sneezed, and I floated a few feet off the ground. That answered my question.
"I'm an Airbender too!" I said, laughing that I was an Airbender in the first place.
Aang looked shocked.
"But....you can't!" he said, shocked. "I'm the last one.....but if you're an Airbender too, that means.....you're the second Avatar."Me, the second Avatar? Impossible! But then I looked on my arms, and saw the blue arrows. Yep. It was true.
Aang grinned and threw his arms around my neck. I felt myself blushing.
"I thought I was the last one," he murmured. "But I have you, Kai Lin! I'm not alone. I'M NOT ALONE!" he proclaimed to the world. But then I heard another voice.
"Is that you, Avatar?" a mysterious voice called out. He blushed. And it was adorable."Zuko!" he whispered. "C'mon, Kai Lin, we've got to go fight Zuko!"
I sighed.
"No, Aang," I said sadly. "I can't go with you."
"Why?" The look on the boy's face was almost too much for me to bear. "We would have so much fun together! I can teach you how to Airbend, and we could fly on my airglider, and you could learn Waterbending from Katara----"
"You're the Avatar, Aang, not me. I'd mess everything up if I did. I'm sorry. And I'm too weak, anyway." Then I smiled. "Besides, there's someone on this boat I really wanna meet!"
"Oh...." Aang hung his head. But then his face lit up as though he had an idea. "Hey! How about I come back for you someday? Then we could be together!"
I smiled.
"OK," I accepted.
But our little lovey-dovey scene was cut short.
"HEY!"
I turned around. It was Zuko.
"GO!" Aang shouted, pushing me up from the ground. "GET INSIDE THE SHIP! NOW!"
