Beep! Beep! Beep! An alarm buzzed as it dangles on top of Emily. Suddenly, in a blink of an eye, she quickly grabbed it, tossed it to the ground, and went back to sleep but she threw it so hard it broke into pieces.
Realizing this, she opened her eyes and surveyed the damage. 'I did not see that one coming.' Emily thought in her head. Emily then heard a knock on her door. Knock! Knock! Knock!
"What's going on in there?" her mom asked,
"Uh, nothing, mom! Everything's all good!" Emily replied as she quickly got out of her bed picking up the broken pieces of the alarm and tossing it in the bin.
"Well, you might as well get ready. The bus is gonna be here any minute," her mom reminded before walking away.
Emily let out a huge sigh of relief. "At least it can't get much worse than that," she muttered to herself.
Then, she looked to her left and focused her gaze on her mirror as she notices something odd. As she approached the mirror and got a closer look, her eyes widened. She noticed a small pimple on the left side of her forehead.
"You have got to be kidding me..."
About a few minutes have passed after she took a bath and wore her clothes, she took out two jackets; a red one with a hood and blue with no hood; and is having a hard time which one to wear.
She then looked at her watch and noticed that the bus just arrived and she was running out of time. Out of frustration, she wore the red jacket and the scarf from last night, grabbed her bag, and ran out of the room but before she could leave, her mom tossed her a small bag.
"Take care, honey!" her mom said,
"Yeah. Thanks, mom! Love you, bye!" Emily replied as she walked out of the house and into the bus. She sat on the same spot on the bus beside her friend Sarah.
"Is it just me or have you grown a bit taller than I remember?" Sarah said,
"It's probably just you," Emily replied,
"Nah. I'm pretty sure you've grown an inch,"
"Very funny."
Then something clicked in Emily's mind and remembered something. She dug into her jacket pocket and took out the ruby brooch.
'Yup. Still there.' she thought to herself,
"Oh! I haven't seen that one before." Sarah said,
"It was given to me by my relatives."
"Really? Good for you,"
Emily just smiled and pinned the brooch on the left side of her jacket.
