Chapter 1: The Friend?
"GET OUT OF MY ROOM!" I screamed. Tears dripped down my nose. Mum bit her lip trying not to scream back. She new better. She stormed out, nearly slamming my door. I didn't want to hear it. My parents were splitting. This was the day after my 14th birthday. I went to the mirror and wiped my smeared makeup. I climbed onto my bed and grabbed a pillow.. I shoved it up to my face and screamed, and screamed, and screamed, until my face was red and I was out of breath. I sat back up and wiped my eyes again. Then, reached for my phone. Who do you call when you don't want to talk? Josh. I scrolled through my contacts searching for his number. I found his number but paused, staring at his contact picture. His mouth was softy smiling and his eyes were slightly closing. He was always happy. I clicked the call button.
RING.....RING....RING....RING.....
"Hey! Its Josh. Sorry I missed your call! You know what to do....BEE-"
I hung up. I'll tell him later, probably. I curled up on my bed and leaned on my wall. I think that's when I fell asleep or passed out, who knows.
Day 2: A Wish
-DING-DING-
I awoke to the, rather annoying, sound of my phone buzzing from a text. I clicked the unlock button.
"Hey, Bri. You called, and you never call. And you didn't leave a message. Are you alright?"
I didn't know what to say to him.
"Hi, Josh. I don't want to talk. Please."
I lied. That's all I wanted to do. To talk to him.
"BriBri?! Hun, whats wrong?!"
I began to cry a bit again."Hun" I love that. Why couldn't my parents be like that?
"My parents..."
"What about them, Love? Are they on you back?"
My eyes burned. It was hard to say. I think it was that if I talked about it I'd have to admit it was happening.
"They're getting a divorce, Josh. It's over."
I cried. Hard. Salty warm tears dripped down my face. I sat for about five minutes. No response for what felt like years.
"Bri,"
"No.. I can't do this right now, Josh. Don't start with me right now."
I felt bad about that but I couldn't handle his pity.
"Bri, meet me at our spot."
WHAT? I thought. I hadn't been there in three years! I didn't know how I was going to fit. Out spot was under the old shed, 3 blocks from each of our houses. We posted notes on the rotted board that we used as a bulletin board for our secrets.
"Give me 11 minutes."
What a weird number. Whatever.
"K,"
I snuck past my parents bedroom and grabbed a water bottle from the fridge. I snatched my pack and threw in my house keys, and grabbed my running shoes. I opens the door a crack and felt the cold air on my skin, then realised I was in my PJs. I dropped my stuff and grabbed a hoodie and threw it over my pink bra.
My phone buzzed.
"Can u bring me a coffee, babe?" Josh texted me.
"Hazelnut? It Donut Shop?" I asked.
"Either"
I grabbed the coffee maker and threw in some coffee beans. It gargled. I pored the hot liquid into a to-go mug.
