After the Storm

After Spring Fling

Victor walked home with Pilar, his heart racing faster with every step he took. He'd just kissed Benji and he should have been more content than ever but he wasn't. His heart broke for Mia. He blamed himself for what happened. He should have been more careful.
The walk home was long and silent, neither of the two said anything. They entered the house to find their parents sitting together on the couch. A sorry but satisfactory look on their faces. It was then that their parents told them about their decision to split up. Victor was disappointed but knew it was for the best. He didn't pay much heed to that situation because he had something else to say. Something he had been building up the courage for ever since the kiss with Benji on that bench. But he thought he'd save it for another day and turned around and started making his way to his room.
He turned around thinking he'd walk away and slam the door with frustration but something made him stop dead in his tracks as he turned around. He looked back at his family and even though his entire body fought against him saying those works, he stood there with determination in his eyes and said it: "Mom, Dad, I-I'm gay."
His Mother said nothing. She gave him that assuring look that said "it's okay, i love you". Victor sighed and smiled back. Pilar was standing beside him. He didn't look but he could tell she was happy for him. His father however, was shocked
"bu-but Mia, your girlfriend? are you sure you're not confused mijo? this age makes you go through pha-"
Victor cut him off before he could finish.
"I am NOT confused and this DEFINITELY isn't a phase."
His father looked at him dead in the eyes and nodded. "I love you son. But this is not a way of life-"
"SAYS THE PERSON WHO JUST DECIDED TO BREAK APART THE FAMILY" Victor snapped back.
Victor was furious. He barged into his room and slammed the door and started sobbing.
He felt uncomfortable. Out of place. Then he remembered.
"Benji" he whispered.
He picked up his phone and called Benji.
"Hey Victor."
"Hi" Victor replied in a soft tone, still sobbing.
"What's wrong? it's almost 1am. And why are you crying? Talk to me."
"I-I just c-came out to my p-parents." he said.
"And?"
"My mom took it well. Or so i think. But i just fought with my dad. Benji i'm lost. I feel like a loser. Mia walked away from me and i've lost hope with my family. I don't know what to do."
"Victor, breathe. It'll be alright, don't worry. No matter what, I'm here for you. Just. Breathe."
Victor took a deep breath.
"Good" Benji whispered "Now try and get some sleep in. I'll call you and we can meet up first thing tomorrow morning. Okay?"
"Okay."
Victor felt safer after the call but continued to sob until he eventually fell asleep, teary eyed.
