Was I scared for no reason after all? I had walked to my bus stop and nothing had happened, but it was really early, so maybe they would be here later. As I got on the bus, I decided to let my thoughts rest, at least I was safe in school.

***

When I got to class though, I realized just how wrong I was. “Students, meet Jake Morgan.” As I looked up to see his face, my body froze in shock, this couldn’t be I thought, never, it must be a dream! I will wake up any second, screaming, sweat drenched, but safe in my bed, at home. I didn’t wake up though. I never did, because my worst nightmare just came true.

All lesson long, I just sat there, expressionless, feeling defeated and lost. What have I ever done to deserve this? I thought to myself. It just couldn’t be true. The new guy, Jake, probably just looked like him. Someone who had been lingering in the streets just yesterday, wouldn’t suddenly appear in school. But, as I looked at his face closely, I saw a scar, I had seen it yesterday too. There was no doubt, I could never escape now.

I finally decided that I had to face my problems, even if it would take some courage, courage  that I didn’t own. I spotted him in the hallway and slowly walked towards him, but the closer I got, the more frightened I got. I felt a lump in my throat as I tried to force myself to speak, but I couldn’t, I just wasn’t prepared.

“Mia what am I supposed to do?” I asked with a bit of frustration in my voice. I’d told her

everything, how I had met him, what he had done, and how I saw him in class.

“Well what you told me isn’t going to be easy to solve.” She replied worriedly.

“I know, but I have to face it somehow.” I murmured.

“I’m there for you Lisa, no need to be scared anymore.” She hugged me tightly and for just a second, I felt safe.

***

“Aren’t you going to tell your parents?”

“I will call them later your safety is more important right now.” Mia reassured.

“Well I guess I can’t stop you.” I sighed, a bit relieved that Mia was coming home with me.

“Nobody can.” She said with a comforting smile.

The bus stopped and even though Mia was with me and I didn’t see Jake on the bus, I felt scared. As we walked through the street that awakened horrible memories inside me though, I saw absolutely nobody and relaxed a bit. I was still kind of paranoid, looking back every few seconds, twitching at every weird sound.

As I finally entered my house, I felt entirely safe. Mia came inside too since it was getting a bit dark.

We sat in my room talking about random things laughing. But then something weird happened. I looked out the window, was someone standing there? I thought. I saw a shadow move quickly through the grass. That’s ridiculous, why would anyone be in my backyard? I was probably just tired, it was 11pm after all, and we had school tomorrow.
