My eyes go wide at the house standing before me, bright, loud, pounding with music. Overflowing with teens. Not my kind of party, but a good party. I look at the amount of cars parked around her house, look at the flashing lights coming from the house and say, "How the hell did I get myself into this?"
I slowly walk through the door into her house, and cringe at the sound of music blaring in my ears. I turn to see Adrian talking to a group of her friends before she notices me walking through the door.
"Fashionably late, I see," she sarcastically remarks while pushing her arms around my body in a tight hug.
"Of course, you know me. The party doesn't start 'till I get here" I shoot back an attempt at a joke.
She ignores what I say, or doesn't hear it because the music is so loud, grabs my hand and pulls me through the crowd of sweaty teens.
When we reach her room, the only place no one can touch in her house, she turns and squeals in my ears.
"Jeez, I'm gonna be deaf by the end of this party. What is it?" I ask when I see the excited expression on her face.
"I met a guy, and I think he wants my number!" She laughs at my expression after she finishes.
"Don't you have a boyfriend?" I push.
"I do, that's why I said no. But I think he'll be perfect for you!"
"Uugh, for the last time, I don't need you to set me up with anyone, I am perfectly fine being alone," I groan. When I look at her expression, I gesture for her to continue anyway.
"His name is Joe, he's cute, and he's kind of a nerd too. I thought, even if you didn't date him, you guys might be good friends." She has this huge smile on her face, and I can't help but smile along with her, she really does care and think about me.
"Fine, I'll meet him. But you have to stay with me the whole time in case he turns out to be a creep. You've set me up with way too many of those."
She sighs, "I know, and I'm sorry, I promise I won't leave your side."
We both walk out of the room, and as we do I finally have time to see what Adrian decided to wear for this party of hers. Her hair is down in loose curls, her top is a black tank top with skulls decorating the fabric, with black short-shorts and boots. I can't help but compare our looks, my outfit being a simple blue button up, jeans and converse. I left my hair down in it's narutally strait form this time, instead of curling it for the event.
She drags me through the crowd until she spots what she's looking for and calls his name.
"Joe! Lookit who I found!" She shouts over the music to get his attention.
Joe turns to look at who called his name, and smiles when he gets a look at Adrian and I. His hair is a light curly brown, his eyes are a dark blue magified by a pair of Rayband glasses, and he is about average height. Pretty normal for a 16-year old boy.
"Hey, how are you guys? My name's Joe." He says as he sticks his hand out for me to shake.
"I'm good, my name is Scarlet" I reply as I take his hand.
As he starts talking, I look around at my surroundings. I'm not trying to be rude but Adrian won't let me get a word in edgewise.
My eyes look around at the streamers, the speakers blaring music, the hundreds of teens dancing and singing to the music, when my eyes lock with nothing but a bright green sea for eyes.
He stands across the room, with his hands in his pockets, his head downcast but his eyes staring directly at me. His eyes never leave as he swipes a hand across the waves of his dirty blonde hair. It takes Adrian grabbing my hand to make me realize I had started walking towards the mystery man, but I let go and keep going.
