The little girl skipped down the narrow path the summer breeze felt like small butterflies brushing against her skin. She sat down under her favorite tree in the backwoods of her house and opened up her dowskin satchel, then brought out the piece of charcoal that she had so carefully wrapped up earlier. She unwrapped it carefully and picked it up, careful not to let it crumble away into nothingness. Clearing away a space on the ground with her foot she carefully pressed it down onto the hard rock surface, scribbling a lazy 6 year old circle, then a line diagonal line. then another, a curved line in the middle, and a smaller line beside that. She glanced up, the sudden smell of sulfur filling the air, she gagged the acrid smoke filled her lungs, She looked down and gasped, her crude rune was burning white. That was when she heard the screams, they started off, earsplitting shrieks of terror, growing frantic, soon pain filled their voices and cries of help, and noooooooo, joined the terrible symphony. The girl, turned in circles trying to find the source of these voices.
She looked up, tears stained her grimy face, the skeletons of her family still lay there, in that old farm house, she looked down at the tearstained grave of her beloved pet, her only friend, at the ruin of her playhouse, and the swing that her daddy used to push her on, and sang : blackbird weeps and still I sleep leaving this wondrous world behind. Then she came.
