I left the kitchen after Gally. I quickly made my way to the homestead, and put on the cleanest clothes I had. After I changed, I was on my way back to the kitchen, when I was yanked back by my shirt. "Hey, watch it." I turned around and Gally had his hand on my shirt.
"Where are you going?"
"To work with Frypan in the kitchen."
"I thought you'd wanna work with me today."
"Why would you think that?"
"I-I dunno. I guess I could use some help."
"You have plenty of other builders, Gally."
"Thought I was captain Gally?" He smirked at me.
"Sorry, captain."
"I love when you call me that."
"What, why?"
"Nevermind. If you want to work with Frypan, feel free. But I actually don't have much to do today. So I'm off after lunch. See ya greenie."
He was off after lunch. I'd use that time to my advantage.
Frypan and I were finishing up the dishes from breakfast, and we started making sandwiches for lunch. It didn't take long, Frypan was a pro.
"Fry, do you mind if I sit with some friends today? I promise I'll stay late to help after-"
"Slim it. I know you want to spend time with Gally. It's okay."
"Thank you so much!" I continued to converse with Frypan while making sandwiches.
"So, how are you getting along with him?"
"Hmm?"
"Gally. He doesn't get along with alone, let alone the newbie. What have you done?"
"Is he really different with me?"
"Yeah, it seems so."
"Wow... I don't know what to say..."
"I say get back to work and you'll have more time with your love."
I blushed and shoved Frypan playfully, and hurried to finish the sandwiches. When lunch time came, Frypan served for me. "Thanks again. Means a lot. I owe you!" Frypan just winked at me, and I smiled. Immediately, Gally walked in. Alone. He motioned for me to come over, and I did.
"What you need?" I ask somewhat politely.
"Where have you been sitting?" He questioned, shifting his weight.
"Oh, just with Thomas and New-"
"You're sitting with me today." He took my food tray and sat it down next to his.
"Okay then! Someones feeling sassy today..."
"Do you not want to sit by me?"
"Course I do."
"Good. You don't have a choice."
I rolled my eyes and plopped down in my seat, Gally doing the same.
"What're you doing after this?" He said, waiting to take a bite of his food until after he talks. A nice change from Thomas' behavior.
"I'm on break for an hour. Then we prepare for dinner."
"Sounds good. What're we having?"
I laugh. "I don't know! I don't pay attention."
"Why not? You should be paying attention to your job, sailor."
That nickname again. "I was thinking about my break."
"You have time to think about your break while you're on break!" He laughed. I've never heard him laugh before.
"Yeah, well, guess I'm just really looking forward to it."
"Me too. I've been working hard for the past two weeks. It feels good to have a break for once."
We finished up our food and I smiled at Frypan one last time before walking outside standing next to Gally. Frypan jokingly made a heart with his hands and I stuck my tongue out at him.
Apparently, Gally saw. "Got a thing for Fry, I see?" He says, sounding tired maybe.
"No, he uh, he did that because, well, it's just a thing we-"
"Slim it. I don't care." Now he sounds angry again.
"What's up with you?"
"What?" He stopped walking. I had to look up to him because he's so tall.
"One second you like me, the next you're telling me to "slim it". What's going on inside your head?!"
"Why are you asking me this?"
"Gally. I'm gonna say this one time and one time only." I took a deep breath in, and looked at my feet. "I like you a little."
"You like me?"
"Yeah I do. You're a great guy, when you aren't ripping someone's face off." He chuckled. Man, I really did like him more than a little.
"Maybe you should go help out Fry. There was a lot of left overs, he needs help."
"He said-"
"I don't care what he said. Go help him, now."
I did what I was told, just because it was Gally. He was a bit of jerk but he's right, he's a good sense of authority. Newt was too nice, and Alby was... I don't know what's happened to Alby. I hope he's alright. I've heard tons about him.
I went back to the kitchen. Frypan gave me a puzzled look. "I'm back. Gally sent me."
"He doesn't wanna spend time with you...?"
"Guess not." I said with slight annoyance in my voice. "So what do I do? Now that I'm here?"
"You can help me clean up from lunch. You don't have to. If you want to go back out there and find him, you can."
"I'm gonna stay. I'm happier in your company anyway." I said matter-of-factly and flashed a huge smile. He imitated my smile, and we got to work. I guessed this was good. I had some good time to think about what I'd said to Gally. Maybe I shouldn't have said that. Now he knows I like him he might hate me. He seems pretty mad and I don't know how to fix things. Tonight we're having a bonfire, though. Im gonna try to talk to him, figure out his feelings towards me.
All during the time I was helping Frypan, I'd been thinking about... Gally. I can't stop. I start liking him more everytime I see him. Everytime I even think of him I get butterflies. Why do I ever think I have a chance, though? He's some tough, tall, scary dude and I'm the opposite. Hey, opposites attract, eh?
Frypan and I exchanged short conversation through out the day, but the rest of my time was spent on Gally. Finally, when we finished everything up, I had a real break. I went outside and went into the homestead. I sat down on my sleeping bag, wishing I could just have a hammock by now. I really wanted to talk to someone, but I wasn't sure who... man who am I kidding? Of course I wanted to go to talk to Gally but I really don't want to bug him anymore than I have today. I decided I'd just lay down. I'm super tired and if there's a bonfire tonight... I plan on staying up.
When I woke up, it was already getting dark. Frypan was standing over me with a smile.
"Someones looking for you, greenie."
I sighed and sat myself up.
"Who would that be?"
"Who do you think?" He said, straightening himself and walking away. I got up and tried to brush my hair out with my fingers. It was impossible. I started to walk over to the dining area, and Gally found me. He looked really upset... what was going on? He jogged over to me and grabbed my arm.
"You're coming with me."
I didn't bother trying to break free. I would fail. Gally looked like he was about to kill someone, but I didn't worry for some reason. He took me into the map room, it was empty. He let go of my arm once we were in, and locked the door behind him.
"What's going on?" He hissed.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Gally."
"Yes, you know exactly what I'm talking about. What's going on with you and Thomas?"
"Nothing... we're friends. Actually, I haven't talked to him since-"
"Listen shank, you better speak up now before I force it out of you."
"Gally! Why are you accusing me?"
"️I heard Newt, Chuck and Minho saying that during your little break
today when I told you you should be working, you were with Thomas."
"I wasn't! Gally, what's up with you?"
He sighed and sat down. His put his hands on his head. "Gally..." I put my hand on his shoulder. He didn't smack it away. "Please, tell me what's wrong."
"No one listens to me. Ever."
"I wasn't with Thomas, I promise-"
"It's not just that."
"Well, I'm sorry. I listen to you."
"I don't know why. I'm not a good enough leader for any of these klunkheads. They chose Newt over me."
"I listen to you because I care about you."
He stood up and looked me in the eye. "Why?"
"Gally, I told you, I like you."
"I didn't believe it."
"Why not?"
"Thought you were trying to get on my good side."
"Yeah, that would be nice, but I honestly truly like you... You're a great guy. I can see the good in you, you just have to let it out to everyone else. You've protected me since day one and I couldn't help but like you even a little."
He nodded, like he was thinking. I said too much. Damn, I ruined it. I ruined everything. Why did I have to let me feelings get the best of me? I felt my eyes start to water and I asked Gally to leave. He told me he wouldn't leave me alone here but I made him go. Once he left I locked the door again and fell to the ground. I hate this place. I hate not having my memory. I hate having unanswered questions. I hate that the few people who brought me happiness in this place just took it away. How could they say that about me and Thomas? I wonder what they said we were doing... Oh my god! Gally probably hates me, and Thomas! What am I supposed to do? I'm so mad at them, this is ridiculous. All my pent up sadness from being brought here in that dumb box and every single bit of stress just came out. I cried for a good twenty minutes and I picked myself up and left the map room. I prayed that you couldn't tell I was upset. Once I pulled myself together I went into the dining area. The second I walked in, Thomas and his friend group spotted me, and everyone was laughing but Thomas. Gally immediately noticed, and he stood up. One of the people he was sitting with tried to sit him back down, but smacked them away. He rushed over to me and put his arm around me.
"Go with it." He whispered, his face really close to mine. I smiled, and he smiled back at me, glaring at Thomas. I giggled, and Gally brought me to where he was sitting. This shut Thomas and his friends up for good.
"Why did you do that?" I said, still laughing.
"To shut those shuck faces up. I bet Tommy over there is jealous."
"I doubt it. That was funny though. Thanks for saving me from them laughing. It was embarrassing."
"I won't let them do that to you. Hope you don't mind I did that. It was for your own good."
"I don't mind. I liked it." I said, covering my face, but I could hear Gally laughing.
"Guess I should do that more often!" He said with a chuckle. I'm blushing like crazy now. This is a bit embarrassing. I really like him.
"Why are you blushing?"
"How many times do I have to tell you?..."
"Oh, yeah, right, sorry. I'm not used to this."
I smiled, still covering my face.
"Hey," he said, smacking my back lightly. "I'm gonna go outside, we're gonna have a bonfire now. Coming with?"
"Give me a minute. I'm gonna talk to-"
"You're not talking to Thomas and them."
"Gally, let me sort things out."
"I don't want you around them-"
"Please. Let me do this."
He sighed and go up to leave. I walked over to Thomas' table and sat next to Chuck.
"What is wrong with you guys? What did you say to Gally?" I said, not directly speaking to anyone.
"Why are you so concerned about Gaaallllyyyy?" Chuck said, saying ️️️️Gally all girl-like. I grabbed him by his shirt and got in his face.
"You wanna say that again?" I threw him back and faced forward.
"You've been hanging out with him too much. What's up with you?" ️Newt chimed in.
"I don't want him hating me, that's what, and you guys almost got Thomas thrown in the slammer. I don't know what you said to Gally, but he's pissed. He was mad at me and I didnt know what to do."
"Look, I'm sorry, we didn't know you cared for him so much." Minho.
"Yeah, well I do. Guess you wouldn't expect that, because you're insensitive jerks. You know Gally is a great guy when you get to know him, but none of you have even tried-"
Thomas stands up. "He hates me! What do I need him for? Why should I try with that piece of klunk?"
"Don't you dare call him that." Now I was standing. I stared right at Thomas, giving him the death glare. Newt was trying to calm us down, meanwhile Minho was laughing his ass off. I hear heavy footsteps behind me. Someone puts their hand around my waist. Oh my god, it's Gally. *stay calm*...
"I think you need to leave her be." Gally furrowed his eyebrows and gave Thomas the same stare. I'd given up on being calm, I was smiling like and idiot staring up at Gally. He looked genuinely mad.
I couldn't stand this.
"What's wrong with you?" Thomas was asking Gally this.
Gally snickered. "What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you?! You don't talk to a girl like that. I don't care that I'm known as the bad guy or whatever, this is ridiculous. She's new here, show her some kindness."
"What has gotten into you?"
I can't STAND this. I had to leave. I like Thomas (as a friend of course) and I like Gally A LOT. This is so bad. I shrugged out of Gallys hold around my waist and I ran out. I don't know if I left because I was upset or too happy. Gally had has arm around my waist. And he was defending me. I'm so happy. But this isn't okay. I'm upset too. Ugh so many feelings😣
Once I stepped outside, I had to listen to what was going on. I couldn't just leave! Hehe.
"What the hell, Thomas? You made her leave-"
"I made her leave? Gally, look at yourself! This isn't you! You've been acting like a real klunkhead since this girl showed up. I know you like her. We obviously all do. But this is impossible, she's just a damn girl. Get over it."
"She isn't just a girl. She's made me smile when nothing else did. It sounds crazy, yeah. But I've changed, alright? I'm actually sort of happy for once. No one has ever tried to spend time with me before. This girl didn't give up. So I'm not giving up on her." With that, he stormed out. I heard him coming so I quickly ran over to the bonfire and sat down. He came out and was about to say something, but I just stood up and threw my arms around him. I felt a tear run down my face. He shortly wrapped his arms around me in return and rested his chin on my head.
"Gally, you're honestly my only reason to be happy here."
"I've been here three years. I've never felt anything even close to happiness in the hell hole. I guess the day you showed up things changed."
I couldn't help it anymore. I was so relieved. I hugged him even tighter and he hugged back. I may not have my memories, but I do know I've never felt this type of happiness before. :)
