Uncomfortable Inconvenience

As Fi-ann finally alighted her delayed train and walked along the street,  untrained ears and eyes might not realise that anything is amiss. The tip-tap of her heels on the concrete, the concentrated, distracted look on her face could be passed off as someone who needs to be somewhere.

Only a very astute and perhaps particularly motivated observer might wonder as to whether something else is driving her. That person might notice the slight swelling of her lower abdomen, the slight forward lean of her posture, the catch of her breath and the flush of her face.

If it had been possible to be a fly on the wall of her day they would have noticed her attention to hydration, drinking a litre and a half of water plus coffee and tea during her meetings. As she left the office in a hurry they would have noticed the "Cleaning in progress" sign outside the ladies toilet that would normally have provided relief before her trip home, the unavailable toilet on her usual train, the slightly pained expression as she sat in her seat and saw that sign.

Someone lucky enough to be able to see the inside of Fi's body would know the reason for swelling and tightness visible in her lower abdomen. They would be able to see the swollen taut vessel of her overfull bladder, expanded to its limit to accommodate a long hydrated day of urine output. They would see the contractions as her automatic system attempts to relieve the pressure, perhaps, if the internal camera were sophisticated enough to see such things, it would see the stream of signals from her brain, as she willed herself to hold on, clenching her pelvic floor and overriding the increasingly strong urination reflex.
