"Daemon aren't you going to invite us inside?" the blonde stranger interludes.

"I would invite Scarlett but not you,' Daemon quietly whispers under his breath but still motions both of them to come in. As they walk inside, Daemon gets a better view of that abominable being. He has changed a lot since five years ago which was the last time when their paths crossed. Tattered clothes, bruised cheeks and a huge cut on the side of his cheek-a shiver runs across his spine as he recalls that day. He never expected his own brother to do something so atrocious to him. Fear, anger, disgust, sorrow...so many emotions ran through his head that it takes him a moment to gather his feelings.

It's better to act indifferent for now...atleast in front of Scarlett.

And, he opens his damned mouth. 'My dear brother, you haven't changed a bit! Still as cold as ice. I thought you would be a bit more excited to see someone of your own blood."

"Yea I would be more excited to see your blood," Daemon casually remarks.

Uttering a short laugh, Darcus pats him on the shoulder "Wow, your sense of humor has sure gotten darker."

Oh you have no idea...

"Daemon," Scarlett interrupts. "I will go freshen up till you brothers can have your boy talk."

Before Daemon could reply however, Darcus speaks up. "Thank you Daemon's girlfriend."

"She's not my girlfriend!" Daemon shouts in irritation. Already he was agitated enough from this animal's presence and now his comments were pissing him off even more. If only he hadn't popped up today, Scarlett would have already been his girlfriend!

However, on the other side, an expression of hurt begins to fill Scarlett's eyes. "Yea, I-I" she hesitates but gathers up her courage and continues on. "I'm not his girlfriend. How can a girl like me be his.. I'll go." With that, she runs out the door.

'Scarlett, I didn't mean that, I love-" But, before she could hear Daemon's true feelings, she was already gone.

"Well well well... looks like your girlfr- oops! I mean my future girlfriend is upset with you."

Daemon grabs him by the collar and glares at him. "Your future girlfriend?' he questions sarcastically. "Who are you even kidding? Scarlett would never fall for the filthy likes of you."

"Oh she would if she finds out your dirty little secret." The formation of an evil glint could be seen in his eyes.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Daemon says with a confused and annoyed expression.

"Oh don't act so naive little brother! You know exactly what I'm talking about..." He circles around him as he speaks. "Daemon, the boy who mercilessly gouges out the eyes of those poor, little animals."

"SHUT UP!" he screams. "I don't do that anymore and never will!"

"Is that so?" He questions as he takes out some photographs from his coat pocket. These pictures say otherwise." And sure enough there it was, a picture of Daemon, his hands dripping with blood with a rabbit's lifeless caricature off towards the side.

"What when... why have you come here? You already ruined my life once! What do you want?"

A loud, hoarse laugh echoes in the room. "You really want to know?"

Daemon didn't utter a word but the look of determination in his eyes was enough for Darcus to know the answer. Yes, he wanted to finish this for once and for all. Why did his own brother hate him so much? Why was he so keen on making his life hell ever since he was born? WHY? So many questions ran in his head that had been bothering him since the night of that incident. He wanted to know what exactly this creature wanted from him! NOW!

Finally, Darcus steps forward and looks him dead in the eye. "I want my mom back."

A heavy silence falls into place. Both brothers stare at each other, eyes boring into one another's soul. It seems as if they have been transported into the past.

The dreadful past in St. Memorial Hospital where Daemon was born. Two pairs of eyes eagerly awaited the arrival of the new member in the family. However, what they didn't know was this new bundle of life  brought with him a tragedy that would forever transform their lives into something beyond and much worse than misery. Even so, up until now, the father and son pair were excited for the happiness that was about to come into their family.

Meanwhile, on the hospital bed lay the body of a lifeless, nonetheless beautiful woman reason being the exhaustion from the labor of giving birth. A heart rate machine displayed the slow yet steady heart beat of the woman on the bed. Although, as soon as the nurse placed the baby into the mother's arms, a flat line beeped onto the heart rate monitor. The pain had been too much for her to bear. After holding, or rather, touching her new-born son for the first and last time, Mrs. Walker passed away.

At that instant, it felt like all the happiness of this special moment had disappeared as if it never existed. And that day, instead of being greeted into this world with tears of joy, the new-born was looked upon through tears of sorrow...and hatred.

Coming back to reality, Daemon softly whispers. "It wasn't my fault Darcus..."

Not your fault?

'Yes, it wasn't your fault that my mom died while giving birth to you. It wasn't your fault that you had eyes just like hers so that every time father would look at you, it would remind him of her. It wasn't your fault he started drinking to get over her death. It wasn't your fault he would beat me everyday over it but he never raised even a finger on you.

He couldn't hurt you because your eyes looked just like mom's and hurting you was like hurting her. And that's why I took out your eye! I was going to take out the other one too but father stopped me! I hate you Daemon and I will hate you for the rest of my life because it wasn't your fault!!'

He wanted to say this and more but instead his lips just form into a sad smile. "I know."

After what seemed like an eternal silence, Daemon finally breaks it. "I forgive you Darcus."

"For what?"

"For this." Daemon points to his eye patch. "You may think you are unfortunate to lose mom but I didn't even get the pleasure of experiencing her love."
