The next morning, Claire and her friends decided to test the drone. She stayed with Pope and JJ to watch through the screen while John B and Kie were in the water with it.
"What's this right here–"
"Don't touch that." Pope smacked JJ's hand away. "I'm trying to work this thing out."
"You're the best geek ever, Pope." Claire joked.
"What would we do without you to control the drones?"
"Technically it's not a drone. It's an ROV."
"Shut up. Shut up. It's too early for that right now." JJ leant over the railing as Kie and John B came to the surface.
"Hey, look, once we get footage of the wreck, we'll bring it to a lawyer in town and file a formal claim." John B said.
"Dude, it's such bullshit. Why do we have to do that?" JJ asked.
"Well, there is maritime salvage law. You can't just go to the ocean floor and scoop a bunch of stuff up." Pope said, standing beside him.
"I know. I know. It's just lawyers aren't cheap, bro."
"Well, as soon as they see the footage, they'll work for a comp."
"You have a lot of faith in the law system, my friend." Claire said.
"How do you even know all of that?" Kiara asked.
"Cause my dad said it, like, a million times."
"Yeah, that's fair."
"The tether is like, really long. In the wrong weather this thing could get pushed around." Pope addressed.
"Then we'll go at dead calm." John B said.
As he said this, thunder rumbled in the distance. Claire sighed.
"At slack tide?" Kie suggested.
"So now, we just gotta wait around for the right weather. And today is not that day."
