Three
As 11:00pm came around, I became more nervous. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
But at the same time, I felt insanely excited. I could feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins. Something about the Australian boy with the messy hair and an angelic laugh made me want to go on the roof tonight.
I decided that I would go up to the roof five minutes early, and hopefully that would put him in a relatively good mood. Maybe he would be more open to answering my questions with the spare five minutes.
I made my way up the staircase that lead to the roof, hoping no one was following me. When I opened the door on the roof, he turns around, acknowledging my presence.
"Look who actually showed up." he smirked, faking a surprised look.
"Would you mind telling me why I'm here?"
"Because I know you have a lot of questions about me."
I nodded in agreement, taking the now crumpled piece of paper out of the pocket and handing it to him, "Is your name any one of these?"
He quickly read over it and handed it back to me. "No, but I'll give you and E for effort."
"I believe it's 'and A for effort' but whatever." I corrected him.
"No I meant E. Do you have any more questions?"
"How do you know my name? And how do you keep getting your stalker-like notes into my apartment?" I asked, rocking back and forth on my heels.
"I know people." he shrugged.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I squinted, walking closer to him.
"Holland, I think you're smart enough to figure that out." he laughed. I found no humor in this situation, and was leaning to the conclusion that he was absolutely insane.
"This is ridiculous, I'm leaving." I huffed, walking back to the door that lead inside.
He grabbed my arm, stopping me before I could even reach the doorknob. "Not before you answer my question."
"And what is that?"
"Why don't you just give up already?"
"Because I'm not the kind of person who gives up easily, but you probably knew that already." I scoffed, walking away.
I ran down the stairs and to my apartment before he could get the chance to follow me. I couldn't think of why he knew everything about me, but I knew I wouldn't be sleeping for a while.
I made my way into my room, and opened my laptop. I googled myself, trying to see if there was anything that could've given him details about my personal life. When I had gotten settled, I noticed the note sitting on my dresser.
Holland,
Maybe you are as reliable as people say you are. I'll see you at the coffee shop down the street at 11:00am.
~a.i.I'm not sure how he got the note into my room when I left the roof before him. I couldn't decide if I felt violated or intrigued.
Sophia came in soon after I started my 'investigation' and I told her everything.
She had always been one of those people who loved drama, mysteries, ... and Netflix. She had been my best friend for years, and yes, we were one of those cliché examples of a perfect friendship.
When we were in 8th grade, we were dating-if you even call an 8th grade relationship 'dating'- the same guy. When we found out, we set out for revenge, and I guess planning to ruin someone really brings two people together.
She seemed pretty intrigued by my story, and invited herself to the coffee shop in the morning. It was 12:30am now, be we both knew that we wouldn't be sleeping. Instead, she helped me compile a new list of names.
We were going to finish unpacking, but being the procrastinators we are, we watched various horror movies on Netflix until 6:am.
The entire time I couldn't stop thinking about the boy from the elevator.
Even with his angelic laugh, mesmerizing eyes, and captivating voice, I knew he had to be trouble.
Somehow, he had got me wrapped up in his little game.
And now, I was forced to play.
