"What's this? Come get it. Come get it, Hope." Elijah crooned, waving a soft toy in front of his niece.
The toddler wobbled as she slowly found her balance. With a grin, she sprung towards the suited man, reaching for her favourite toy. He handed it to her and engulfed her in a hug, twirling her around. The infant's giggles filled the air. The two were unaware of a hybrid watching them...

Fortunately, this hybrid was no threat. She was mother to the child and lover of her uncle. Smiling, she watched the two, a hand on her stomach. Now she was sure. Now she was sure that the family would grow. Hayley coughed, gaining the attention of the Original, though the child did not draw her hazel-green eyes from her prize.
"Hayley." Elijah breathed, almost stunned by the beauty of his soon-to-be wife.
"Elijah. We need to talk." She stated, folding her arms over her chest.
"Of course. Is everything alright?"
"Perfectly."
Elijah left his niece giggling, rolling about the garden. When he reached his Hayley, he took her slender hand in his own and caressed it softly.
"Whatever's the matter?"
"'Lijah, I don't know how to tell you. I...just... I'm pregnant. I don't know how it's possible, but we're going to have a baby. You're gonna be a daddy, and Hope's gonna be a big sister, and-"
"That's quite impossible." The Original reasoned.
"I know, but it happened. Shouldn't we be greatful?"
"Perhaps we should find out how. Are you positive."
"Fifteen positive pregnancy tests and doctor's approval."
"It can't be mine. It just can't be. You've been unfaithful, haven't you?"
This hurt Hayley deeply. She'd never felt love like she'd felt for Elijah, and wouldn't dare do anything to damage the trust that he had towards her.
"How dare you?" She breathed, stunned.
"Well you must've. Whose the father? It's Jackson, isn't it?"
"Jackson? What? He refuses to talk to me, Elijah, let alone sleep with me!"
"Don't you lie to me!" He hissed, "I'll kill him!"
And with that, he sped off.

Hayley was about to chase after him, but then was reminded of her child. She sighed, scooping her daughter into her arms.
"Hayley, what a pleasant surprise." Klaus smirked, "What do you think of my painting? I call it- 'L'angle engendré par un monstre', French for: 'The angel fathered by a monster'. Oh, you brought my little angel with you."
"It's beautiful." She huffed, "I need you to watch Hope, while I go after Elijah."
"Always a pleasure to look after my daughter. What have you done to warrant my brother's fleeing?"
"He thinks I slept with Jackson, so will y-"
"And have you?"
"No. Look, I don't have time for this."
"Put her on my lap, Hayley. She likes to watch Daddy Hybrid paint."
"Thanks."
She gave the child to its father before chasing after Elijah.

His scent continued all the way down to the bayou. Panic struck Hayley's bones as she saw Elijah and Jackson face-to-face, still as if they were just subjects of a painting. Then, she noticed the weapon in her once-betrothed's hand. A white oak stake.
"Jackson, what the Hell is that?!" She exclaimed, unsure of what to do.
As she'd expected, he ignored her completely. He had right to.
"Hayley, don't move." Elijah breathed.
The Original flicked his gaze upwards from the point of the stake to the wolf's eyes.
"You slept with my fiancée." He stated.
"No he didn't!" Hayley interjected.
"Your input is not needed now. This is between the mongrel and I."
Jackson stiffened at this insult, gripping the stake tightly enough to turn his knuckles white.
"You think I slept with her?! Is that what this is about?! Hah. I wouldn't go near her even if you paid me. She abandoned not just me, but the wolves too. And now, half of the crescents are dead." He argued.
"I'm sorry." She muttered.
"Well, sorry ain't good enough, is it now? And as for you, Mr Suit-and-Tie, if you come near me blazing like that ever again, this little baby will find her way into your heart."

Hayley managed to drag Elijah away from the bayou, back to where Rebekah and Klaus were awaiting their return. Klaus told her that their daughter was asleep, and Hayley thanked him. She pulled Elijah away from the others, so that they could talk in private.
"So, I'm going to be a father." Elijah mused, breaking the silence.
All Hayley could do was nod.
"How far-"
"Eight weeks. Eight weeks exactly. But I'm scared for our baby, 'Lij. My hybrid body won't change, will it? What if I can't accommodate them?"
Elijah brushed his thumb along his love's cheek, in an attempt to comfort her.
"We'll find a way, Hayley. We always do."
They stayed silent for a few moments, folded into each-other, their chests moving up and down in synchronisation, like they'd practised previously. Then, the Original sighed, tucking her loose dark brown hair behind her ear, so that he could get a better look at her enchanting face.
"I'm ecstatic about this child, Hayley, don't think any other way, but I don't understand it."
"And you think I do?" She mumbled.
He rested his chin on her head, and they fell back into a thought-filled silence.

"It's almost a shame to disturb the two of you."
Klaus grinned down at the mother of his child and his brother, his dimple popping out of his cheek. Both flicked their gaze up to him as soon as they heard his voice.
"Then why have you?" Hayley questioned, slightly annoyed.
"I'll go if you want, but I thought I'd bring our daughter to you. So you can say your goodbyes for now."
"What?!" She exclaimed.
She shot bolt up-right, hitting her head against Elijah's jaw, much to his brother's amusement.
"Don't worry, I'm not taking her away. I just thought you might want to head down to Massachusetts."
"Why would that be, Brother?" Elijah inquired.
"There's a coven situated there. They specialise in all things baby. Supernatural pregnancies, births, children... They may have the answers to all your questions. And here, is Hope."
He lifted the giggling toddler over the sofa onto Elijah's lap. Hayley looked at Elijah, silently asking her question. He nodded slightly, before kissing his niece's head.
"We'll be back soon, Hope, 'kay?"
She nodded, pressing a slobbery kiss to his cheek.
"Ta-Ta Unca 'Lijee."
Hayley giggled, before pulling her daughter in for a cuddle.
"I'manna miss you, Baby Girl."
"Love oo, Momma Hybid."
Klaus had taught her that, though she could never quite perfectly pronounce "hybrid". Hayley despised being away from her daughter, and refused to leave her unless absolutely necessary. This was one of those times- there was no way she was taking her to an unknown witches' lair.

"So, here begins a Haylijah road trip." Klaus announced.
"A what?"
"Haylijah. Like, Hayley "Hay" and Elijah, "lijah". Haylijah. All the kids are doing it. Before last week, I thought "Larry" was just a name for men with a receding hairline, but apparently it's what young girls are "shipping" these days. You must've heard of it, Hayley. You're a young girl- only 23. I think I've even read about some McLennon... I miss the days of the Beatles..."
"While my brother is having a 15th life crisis, shall we pack? Massachusetts is around a day's drive."
Hayley smiled, nodding, and pecked his cheek.

So there began a Haylijah road-trip.
