mitsuki stared at y/n's blank face as she stared out the window from her hospital bed.

her normally expressive eyes were lifeless and her bright smile was nonexistent. the playful and rambunctious girl was nowhere to be seen.

she hated it.

she hated how she never knew about y/n's troubles.

she felt disappointed in herself somehow.

mitsuki really loved y/n like her own daughter and to see her in such a state was heartbreaking.

"y/n?"

"hmm?"

"what was that earlier?"

"what?"

"you kept saying you were a good girl..."

"i am." she furrowed her eyebrows. "do you think i'm not? are you sad, mitsuki?"

"we—yes—wait no! i'm happy, honey. you're just...you seem..."

"good. i'm a good girl."

"that's...yeah you are. and it was your step dad that told you you aren't?"

"no, he just told me how to correct it when i wasn't."

"and when were you not?"

"when i wore a lot of makeup and wore revealing clothes. when i came home with attitude and got bad grades. when i didn't do chores and didn't follow orders. i was a bad girl when i made my mom sad and when i made my dad die. i was bad when i made katsuki give his attention to me when he needed it. but it's okay now. i'm good."

"y/n... those things don't make you bad."

"what do you mean?"

"being a bad person makes you bad. manipulating your step daughter makes you bad."

"i know he does it. he's harsh, that's why i don't like him. but it doesn't make his comments any less true. i need to be cool for katsuki. i need to be powerful."

"...i called a couple of your friends here."

"oh?"

"i think they can help you."

"i don't think i need help, mitsuki."

"i know..." she trailed off. "but i think you could use some extra company."

"okay."

mitsuki grabbed her purse and started walking out, unable to communicate with the dry y/n.

"thank you."

mitsuki paused and looked back at the almost lifeless y/n with an innocent expression.
