Never in a million years would I think it would come to this. Sulking over a boy who didn't even know I exist?! I'm pathetic!
His name is Jackson Montgomery. He's the top of his class every year, gets every girl he wants, and has applied to 4 ivy leagues, DARTMOUTH IS HIS FREAKING SAFETY SCHOOL. But his brains isn't the only reason I like him, he's also the only boy who's ever noticed me.* 2 years ago *
God, I didn't realize that the high-school was THIS BIG, even just walking down the hallways intimidates me, how am I going to make it past freshman year?!
"Hello everyone!! My name is Jackson and I'll be your orientation leader today! How about we go around in a circle and introduce ourself, why don't you start?"
I was too caught up looking at how his hazel eyes shone through his glasses, that I didn't even realize he was pointing to me until my best friend, Cassie, nudged my side.
"Oh..." I look down at my feet, mustering up all the courage I could and whispered, "My name is Hailey Warner."
"I'm sorry, but you might need to speak up a little", Jackson chuckled.
I could feel heat rising to my cheeks as I lifted my head up once again and spoke a fragment louder this time.
"Hailey Warner"
"Well it's nice to me you Hailey," He smiled through each word, "and by the way, don't be worried about the High school, I was just as scared as you are now. Things get a lot easier." After he finished he winked at me and continued down the line.
HE WINKED.
AT ME.I know it was friendly and because I was clearly nervous, but ever since then I've been replaying that moment in my head.
Over and over and over.
OKAY SURE, we never talked after that, AND SURE I avoid him in the hallways at all costs but I'm a lot different then I was freshman year. I've become a little less shy and even found myself a good group of friends.
Junior year is going to be different. It has to be.
After lying in my bed for 15 minutes and trying to manifest this day to be amazing, I finally decided to get out of my bed.
Placing my feet on the ground, I feel a fabric crinkle underneath my toes.
What the-
I look down to see the outfit I placed there last night and clearly had forgotten about.
It was nothing too extravagant, Just some black jeans and a cropped white top paired with black hightop Vans.
(A.N. - shhhh just pretend her shoes are vans)
Walking into my bathroom I thank the lord that I had decided to straighten my hair the night before, knowing very well that if I hadn't, I would be looking like a lion with my naturally curly hair.
After brushing my teeth and hair, I walk down the steps to see my mother packing up her lunch before work.
"Good morning honey!" She beamed, kissing me on the forehead.
"Morning Madre" I laugh, "You're in quite a good mood!" She nodded her head and looked down at her phone that was buzzing on the kitchen table.
"Hello." She spoke as I grabbed an apple and began to chop it up. It didn't take long until the smile she wore earlier was replaced with a frown.
"The Hospital?" I question, wondering who called.
"Yup, seems like we're going to have lots of patients today, Some bus crashed into a couple of cars on the highway...." She trailed of as she grabbed her keys and headed towards the door.
"Have a good first day! Im sorry I wont be home until late, there are some leftovers in the fridge that you can heat up for dinner tonight. Love you, bye!!"
And just like that she was out the door. As I eat my apple and peanut butter, I can't help but pray that the people who were in that accident make it out alright.
Placing my plate in the wash I notice the time,
7:25
SHIT.
It was a 15 minute drive to school and the welcoming assembly starts at 7:30. I'm really about to be late on the first day back, aren't i?
Quickly I ran upstairs to grab my backpack and keys and ran out the door to my beat up pick up truck.Sure she isn't pretty but I love this truck with my heart and soul. It was the only car I was able to afford myself when I got my license. My mom wanted to help out but with our financial status it was better that she didn't.
Shit, speaking of, I should probably look for places around town that are hiring! So I can finally help my mom out at least a little.
Driving just barely under the speed limit, I finally arrived to school.
8:36
Okay 6 minutes late, not terrible. Im sure people are still being seated in the auditorium anyways.
I'll be fine.
After finding my parking spot and sprinting into the school, I make my way to the entrance of the auditorium and bolt through the doors praying no one will notice.
It took merely seconds to notice that all eyes were on me.
I look up to hundred of eyes staring at me but the ones that stood out the most were the ones on the stage. Those hazel eyes that I could never forget.
Well...I guess that was one way to start this year.
