A/N: Before we start, hi! This is going to be much darker than 'Rise' and every other book I ever wrote, so just another heads up before we begin.

With that out of the way, let's begin!

POV: Gadget

It's been four months since Eggman and his army was defeated, the world has slowly returned to normal. The Resistance has since disbanded as there is no need for them anymore, not with Eggman gone for a long time. Sonic and I parted ways after the successful win as he had other things to attend to, and so have I.

Honestly, I've been super busy in my home city, helping out those in need and helping others with the rebuilding process of their homes. I haven't gotten much time to myself, which I guess is good as it takes my mind off the events of the war - that is likely to stay with me all my life.

I have my own small apartment that managed to stay intact during the war, I visit it every so often to rest and eat but I spend the majority of my days helping others outside.

But now, it was late at night, and the moon shone brightly over the recovering city. Stars twinkled in the midnight painted sky, it was calm.

Walking back to my apartment, it was silent, not a single mobian was in sight. The only sounds were of my soft soled feet hitting the hard concrete ground, I glanced up at the humongous building before entering inside and walking into a lift to the second floor where my apartment was. My neighbors kept themselves to themselves which was comforting to me, I preferred the silence.

As I entered my small flat, I locked the door behind me and exhaled gently. My muscles ached from the work I done today and my stomach grumbled unhappily from not eating.

I headed to my kitchen and glanced inside the mini freezer, thankfully after two months without electricity they finally got power into the city which meant I could eat more filling meals than just food bars all the time.

I picked out a small frozen pie and quickly warmed that up, I wasn't feeling terribly hungry, just something to curb the hunger for now.

After eating the pie, I washed the dishes before dragging my exhausted feet to my bedroom.

My bedroom was small, just how I liked it. It consisted mainly of a double bed, a wardrobe full of clothes and a bedside table where I placed my glasses and the occasional glass of water. The walls were painted a soft cream colour, the bed was covered with colours varying from black to navy and my wardrobe and bedside table were wooden.

I kicked off my shoes, took off my chest piece, and slipped off my gloves before placing my glasses aside and flopping onto my bed.

I curled into my bedsheets and sighed, closing my tired eyes and slipping into the endless abyss of dreams.

--

The sun cracked through the curtains, hitting my eyes and waking me up. I groaned and tried to ignore the call of daylight, failing almost immediately as my eyes opened and I adjusted to the light peeking through.

It was a brand new day.

Or rather, another day in the many of helping the people.

I reached for my glasses and put them on. I quickly stretched, cracking any bones that needed to be cracked and shaking my body awake for the day ahead. I sniffed my fur and grumbled, the more work I do the more I take showers.

Ugh.

Standing up and taking a deep breath, I walked into my bathroom to take a quick shower to wash the dirt off me.

My thoughts wandered to what could happen today, and what has happened during the past few months. Especially the last words from a masked criminal.

"No, wait! I can still fight!"

I wondered about what had happened to Infinite, surely he didn't fully disappear with the ruby, right? All I seen was him "vanishing" into thin air.

That was the last time I ever seen him.

Did he die?

Was he still alive?

Is he still a threat?

Questions filled my head, all needing answered as soon as possible. I turned off the shower and dried off my fur before slipping on my gear and quickly grabbing a food bar to sustain my hunger for the day.

Food can wait. I need answers.

Now.
